Fall in love with this beautiful voice. Classic jazz. None of that Faux crap that Katie Melua et al forces down onto us. Her debut album was recorded when she was 21 (2006) and althought it starts quietly, the albums second half is worth the admission price alone. Quiet Fire and Love Me Like A River Does are spellbinding. Billie Holliday? Nina Simone? Early Joni Mitchell? Buy it. Love It. Open Up.

Come on people how can you not love this? Aged 21:

jackhammer 07-26-2008 06:53 PM

Third and final attempt to introduce a talent that is far more interesting than the Winehouses of this world. Listen and Love!

Piss Me Off 07-27-2008 01:31 PM

Not that i'm really that clued up jazz wise but even to me that's a lot more endearing than the watered down stuff the mainstream throws out.

ProggyMan 07-27-2008 02:43 PM

If you've got an up I'm game jackhammer.

jackhammer 07-27-2008 03:02 PM

^^

Pm.

I just saw this...not sure how I missed it. She has a fantastic voice and she's good lookin' to boot.

Any chance of getting a d/l? :o:

Performit 09-28-2008 04:39 PM

Well, it's about time someone. . .

TY

The comparisons to Billie Holliday are obvious, which puts me off a bit to be honest. How much is she actually like her and how much is she trying to be like her?
Great voice and she reminds me of Eva Cassidy too.

jackhammer 09-28-2008 05:14 PM

It is inevitable that comparisons will be made but if the honesty and the talent of a voice comes through then that's enough for me. Have you got the album?

You'll notice I'm over using the smilies in replies to your posts lately, so you don't think I'm being sarcastic. :D

Thanks for the incredibly quick and not entirely unexpected pm btw.

No feel free to being your old self again. Thick skin now regrown.

right-track 09-28-2008 05:36 PM

Right then...to say she's more interesting than Winehouse was a bit wide of the mark.
Her subject matter isn't as cutting, but she is more versatile.
That's why I compared her to Eva Cassidy.

She does have an exquisite singing voice, but she lacks direction.
She's needs to balls it up a bit more.

Somewhat agree. Although Winehouse dips her toe in Soul and Funk and Gardot is definitely old school which makes her less edgy but more appealing on an emotional front to me. She is also not a skank. :p:

In all seriousness I am just dissapointed that someone with that good a voice is not recognised at least in the Katie Meula etc market (and a lot better to boot).

right-track 09-28-2008 05:45 PM

I'm only going off what I've heard so far, which is mainly jazz style.
I reckon she could do blues well.
What's the album like? Does she mix it up a bit?

No it's an unashamedly old school Jazz record although from track 6 onwards it's pure win.

Hmmm I haven't seen that, but I'm betting it was a song from Herbie's newest album - half of the tracks have guest vocalists... he seems to be well into collaboration nowadays.

Anyway I don't listen to a lot of vocal jazz, but I liked Worrisome Heart.

Get yourself a Nina Simone compilation and die happy. She is spellbinding.

jackhammer 10-09-2008 04:21 PM

I have just actually took the time to read more of her bio as i'm dying for a new release. I found this on her website which is quoted Verbatim on wiki, so the source is accurate:

I have fell in love even more and my appreciation and respect has raised tenfold.

Seems to be in the Norah sect but this song isn't half bad, even if you get the impression Starbucks funded her career

TheBig3 05-12-2009 07:50 AM

Ha ha, whoops, Sorry Jackhammer didn't know you beat me to the punch by a good year.

Big3KilledmyFailDog

jackhammer 05-12-2009 12:53 PM

I have her new album at last . Thoughts later.

The Cat 05-12-2009 01:45 PM

She is IMO one of the greatest talents for many a year!

jackhammer 11-18-2009 05:38 PM

Linking back to the NME top albums of the decade how on earth isn't she in the list if Winehouse get's in there?

I have to relink the first video.

Flower Child 12-18-2009 08:54 PM

Jackhammer, thank you so much for this!

So effortlessly easy and smooth- just gorgeous really. She has a very urban vixinish feel to her voice that I just adore and wish to death I had. Downloaded her "Worrisome Heart" song and have already listened to it multiple times tonight.
