Current Blues Artists?
I'm looking into getting into current blues, rather than old school.
Anyone have any suggestions on who to listen to? |
Hamilton Loomis is O.K, if a little formulaic.
|
Someone once recommended Watermelon Slim, and Carlos del Junco.
Have you heard of them? I checked them out, they are pretty decent, and perhaps the reason why I want to check out more current blues artists. |
I have heard Carlo Del Junco but was'nt overly impressed. how about Seasick Steve?
|
I will check him out.
I also came across the Homemade Jamz Blues Band, and my heart was a flutter! They are so young, so I immediately thought it wouldn't be super bluesy, but MAN, WAY impressed. That kid can sing! |
Son of Dave is also very very good:

I banned a spammer for advertising that band here earlier today. And now here you are talking about the exact same band , with the exact same IP. Amazing coincidence. |
Haha, well I suppose the OP may be gone by now but I'll recommend Back Door Slam to anybody who wants to listen.

Michael Powers and Magic Slim are also very good current blues artists.
|
Did anyone hear of Kenny Wayne Shepherd, he came to my town over the summer for this festival thing and just blew my mind. I read he is like one of the best blues guitarists.
|
Yeah he's great too.
|
I've heard good things about Magic Slim. I'll check him out. Thanks!
|
Check out C. W. Stoneking. I was given his album to listen to a while back and thought I was listening to someone from the deepest south.

Back Door Slam
I heard about these guys yesterday and they are pretty good. The guitarist/singer is a combination of SRV and Clapton |
Maybe try Derek Trucks Band.

How about Keb' Mo'? I saw him in concert once and he was great!
|
Just a few: Guitar Shorty, Michael Burks, Bernard Allison, Walter Trout, Lurie Bell, Sonny Landreth, Jimmy Thackery, Tinsley Ellis, Moreland & Arbuckle, Hillstomp, North Mississippi All-stars, and the venerable Buddy Guy is still sounding pretty modern.
|
just to back up the people on here i'd say go with Sonny Landreth, Derek Trucks, and Buddy Guy. they're my favorite modern ones.
|
Also Otis Rush, Michael Powers, and Eddie Kirkland.
|
Keb'mo is the only modern blues artist i know and he's fine..
|
Hello! I'm new here  I just discovered Slackerdotcom last month and got the G2 Portable Radio. I was checking out stations a few days ago and discovered the Modern Blues station! There are MANY NEW or current Blues artists of which I had no idea.
Check out Slackerdotcom to hear Modern Blues or the other blues stations for free. I think it's a great find. If you had or have Satellite Radio, then I think you dig Slacker's stations. :yeah: This is a great Forum btw! Candy |
Doyle Bramhall II
Chris Duarte Paul Red**** and the Sidemen Robert Cray Marcia Ball |
Forgot to to say Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Jeff Healy (R.I.P.) are incredible current/modern Blues artists. Amazing stuff!
Susan Tedeschi rocks too as does Lucinda Williams. I am new to the Black Keys but I like what I have heard from them. Although not a blues band specifically. Check out the latest album from Jack White's other band, The Reconteurs also for some good blues or some of the White stripes bluesy songs. |

Is anyone going and if so can you post a revue just to make me insanely jealous? |
Some, others have already mentioned. Some aren't new either, but all are still releasing albums (I think):
Joe Bonamassa Susan Tedeschi Jonny Lang John Lee Hooker Jr Gina Sicilia Ana Popovic Bonnie Raitt Lonnie Mack Stevie Ray Vaughan Irma Thomas (more soul than blues, but plenty of blues influence) |
Robert Cray is great and still playing, he's not that old
