Any jazz bands that sound artful, yet modern and smooth?

Describe artful. And I assume when you say modern you mean not Louis Armstrong type stuff.

Although I'm not entirely sure, try these guys out. They're a Scottish electronic jazz group. Very good stuff. They've got two drummers, which is always awesome.

Have you ever listened to Lounge Lizards or John Lurie's work in general? Great stuff along those lines.

I just got into the Souljazz Orchestra not too long ago. Great great stuff, might get the chance to see them live this weekend. Any fans?

I've never heard of the Souljazz Orchestra but they sound pretty groovy based on those videos. Especially the first one.

I've only ever heard of the Souljazz Orchestra in passing, but those songs were great. I'm gonna look into them.
