I've never listened to a John Coltrane album before. Recommend to me your top five.

1. Interstellar Space
2. Ascension
3. Sun Ship
4. A Love Supreme
5. Meditations

Just a warning, I'm into the freer stuff, and A Love Supreme is the only one that isn't heavy with the free jazz. Blue Train is a great more standard Jazz album from Coltrane that you ought to listen to just so you can see all of his sides.

Giant Steps is also one of his more famous albums as well, but it's in an older style of recording, so Coltrane is always on the left, and the drums and bassist are on the right all the time, and it's a bit hard to get used to.

I always say start with A Love Supreme. If you liked the free, crazy stuff on the album move forward into his discography. If you preferred the more traditional stuff, go backwards. Makes it easy. For best results, do both, because everything the man has ever done is genius.

Hey there!
I'm not sure if my question fits in your thread but I'm on the verge of despair and need the help of all the Jazz/Blues fans here!
In advance I have to say that I'm from Germany.
In 2014 I've seen a Jazz/Bluesrock concert in tv.
There were some great artists who showed their talents. Most of them were older experienced musicians, but not that famous.
ONE OF THEM was a very young guy with breathtaking guitar riffs!!! He looked like he was about 18/19 years old. His haircut remembered me of the young Alex Turner(Arctic Monkeys) or Jake Bugg. BUT I forgot his name and never found him again!! I really want to know who this talented young boy was....maybe some of you can help me!
I know it's difficult, but I guess there aren't too many very good blues/Jazz artists in that age....
It would mean a lot to me if you could help me! Thank you!
