not albums but i can give you a general idea of artists i suppose.

Coltrane
Davis
a little Coleman
Dolphy
Sun Ra
some Monk
little bit of Mingus
few songs by Duke Ellington, no full projects

i think that should give you a rough idea, at least those are the first artists that come to my head. and when i list them i'm referring pretty much exclusively to stuff they've done under their own name, i haven't looked into any collaboration or anything.

This isn't the kind of jazz I usually listen to - so what makes it special? Well, it's written by Leonard Cohen and sung by his long-time companion Anjani, so I find myself listening carefully to the lyrics, which don't disappoint.

And how comfortable are we with a musician who is also a tv presenter? Probably not very; it smacks too much of the uncommitted popularizer. Still, Jools Holland does a good job of being an unobnoxious host and a talented pianist as well, as you can see in this clip.

If you want more music in this style, take a look at Anjani's Blue Alert album.

Default New jazz from Canada

I came across these guys last week - the Nick Maclean Quartet, they've got a new album out called 'Rites of Ascension' that reminds me A LOT of Herbie Hancock!

There's a video of them on Youtube playing 'One Finger Snap' - it's BURNING and that Brownman Ali on trumpet is just channeling Freddie Hubbard!

^ Welcome to MB, keithmcjazz! Here's the song you mention:-

And just in case you haven't heard me championing a fave of mine, here are a couple of the songs that first turned me on to Roy Buchanan.( Paradoxically, one of the lasting merits of Messiah is that it starts out as an embarrassingly sincere church song - but stick with it, guys! Pete's Blues, on the other hand, should grab you in the opening bars and take you on an excruciating rollercoaster to the bottom of the blues...)

Been a while since I've listened to any fusion. Not a bad album from John Abercrombie, Dave Holland and Jack Dejohnette from 1976 - Gateway.

Interesting that monk is not full, but Coltrane and Miles Devis are full. I guess that these trumpet and sax guys, obviously are not trivial. But are not a genius like of Monk. I am not sure that solo instrument alow to understand music as harmonic inst-t.

I really like what this guy is doing, and he's really skillful imo. Curious how hardcore Jazz fans feel about his work as well.

Note: I am far from a "jazz expert," I just like to listen to the music from time to time
