Bohren & der Club of Gore - ambient/noir jazz
Bohren & der Club of Gore
http://a733.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...95994ca05c.jpg Bohren & der Club of Gore is a German ambient/Jazz band from Nordrhein-Westfalen. The band was founded in 1992 by Thorsten Benning, Morten Gass, Robin Rodenberg and Reiner Henseleit. The band started to play crossover of jazz and ambient, which they self described as an "unholy ambient mixture of slow jazz ballads, Black Sabbath doom and down tuned Autopsy sounds". The bands name was at first just Bohren but since they had gotten the urge to play instrumental music from an instrumental band called "Gore" they changed the name into Bohren & der Club of Gore. In 1996 guitarist Reiner Henseleit left the band and was replaced by Christoph Clöser in 1997, replacing the guitar with a saxophone at the same time and turning the sound even more jazzier at the process. The band has released six full length albums. Current members: Thorsten Benning – drums Christoph Clöser – saxophone, piano, rhodes Morten Gass – piano, mellotron, rhodes Robin Rodenberg – double bass Albums: Gore Motel (1994) Midnight Radio (1995) Sunset Mission (2000) Black Earth (2002) Geisterfaust (2005) Dolores (2008) Links: bohren & der club of gore (official) on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads |

I listened to Somewhere off Jazz Street and it was amazing. I have download their albums. It's really cool that they give them out free.

I like The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation and Heroin and Your Veins really much :) |
Really solid, smoky tunes. I may be in the minority but I feel Sunset Mission is just as good as Black Earth.

Nice, I only knew bohren. SOme hints were very welcome :)

Bit disappointed, not much real jazz in the bands mentioned above.
Loads of electronics and experiments. If anyone knows real acoustical doomjazz, apart from Bohren, I'll be happy to try :) |
Excellent group and excellent post. I was surprised to find they had a thread here. I've only heard Black Earth, but need some time to listen to the rest of their discography
