Jazz is okay but... usually I'm not into the stereotypical slower jazz like smooth jazz or whichever category it falls under. I mean if I'm going to choose which music I'm going to listen to it's not going to be jazz. But if theres some bangin jazz beats playin I'll stop to listen lol

It appears that I'm a lot older than most of you posting here - but I have a huge passion for music - how cool is it when you turn people on to new stuff? Anyway, I have an extensive music collection in a variety of genres (2000+ CDs and a couple of hardrives full). For Jazz (several varieties) a few choices come to mind:
Charles Mingus - Best of
Wes Montgomery - Jazz Masters Series (This guy is a monster guitar player)
Weather Report - Heavy Weather
Return To Forever - Romantic Warrior
Spyro Gyra - Morning Dance
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
these are good starting points for old school jazz, smooth jazz, hard fusion, and new swing - check them out.

I have a lot of jazz on tape, collected over 30 plus years of listening, and I've just started building a CD collection of my old favourites plus new stuff. e.g.

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
Weather Report - Heavy Weather
Lots of Bill Evans piano trios
Some Barney Kessel & Herb Ellis jazz guitar
Wind from the South - Claudia Acuna (Good contemporary jazz Singer )
+ Dexter Gordon, Canonball Adderley, Oscar Peterson etc etc

I enjoy listening to jazz, the good improvisers often surprise me with the directions they choose to take !
