I Need Some Serious Help With Rhythm
 

So here's my problem.

I'm a music major, I'm a saxophone player and I double on flute and clarinet. I'm a very good player and I know what is going on with Jazz, I'm very experienced, so don't think that I'm some "NOOB"

Now, to the rhythm.

If you where to look at my reading from an outside view you would think "this guy is good he doesn't struggle at all, he knows what he is doing"... this is not the case, the only reason you would think this is because I'm a really, really, really good listener and I can go along with anything. Its when you sit me down throw music infront of me and say "go".
I have a really hard time counting in my head (yeah, how hard could it be counting to 4? well apparently its hard for me :banghead:) so my question is: Do you guys know of any other methods of reading rhythm?

Having the opportunity to get familiar with the rhythm and tempo of the piece of music that you're playing before sitting down and playing it is always a good thing, even though those opportunities don't always present themselves.

It can be helpful, and fun, to just do some counting work with a metronome while drumming beats out over the count with your hands to get yourself more familiarized with counting and working within the structured time signature. When I was more musically active, that was something that I would do regularly with a lot of the musicians that i worked with. It can also help you to mentally "sync up" with the people you're playing with, but I'm assuming tjhat's not a scenario you run into a lot.

Actually that is the most basic principle for a musician or a music major.

But, that's not bad to have problem like that. :)

My suggestion is :

- Try to listen song as much as you can, put your heart into the song, feel it, and "touch" the rhythm.. Maybe you'll still feel hard at the first time BUT as long as you do with your concentration, fun and focus, you will get it done for sure!

One more important mindset to all musician in the world.. "Musics are beautiful, its truly the piece of the Creator's art, I love it, and I let myself for them.."
