Smooth jazz to me is more pop, r&b with jazzy melodies on top of it. They took the hit cover songs and flipped it with a jazzy feel. 3 artist I enjoy are piano players, David Benoit, Brian Culbertson and Phil Casagrande.

I'm not usually a jazz listener but I know some people who are serious smooth jazz fans. Personally, I never thought music like Culbertson, Benoit, Rippingtons, etc, should be classified as jazz. I think it's a totally different genre of it's own. When I think of jazz, I think of Dave Brubeck type stuff which I really like.

i really wouldn't know - i don't study Kenny G or David Sanborn's notes to see if they fit the jazz music theory, mainly because I don't play any of that shit

I do listen to it occasionally, if i'm inn the right frame of mind

Of course smooth jazz is really jazz. Not everyone likes it rough all the time.

I consider Shirley Bassey as a jazz singer, be it smooth or rough.
