Dr. John, the Night Tripper

Dr. John created for himself one of the more exotic stage personas to come out of the 60`s, which is conveyed pretty well in this bizzare video, which -intentionally or not- seems to parody Christ`s entry into Jerusalem :-

This next clip, though, is from the 80`s and shows how he abandoned the showmanship and let his piano playing speak for itself :-

This is a guy who has spent over forty years exploring the diverse elements that make up his music; New Orleans jazz, R&B,and voodoo chants. That makes for a pretty varied discography, especially as he is not always in touch with his muse, so there are some fairly weak albums in the bunch.

Of his early albums,Gris-Gris and Dr.John`s Gumbo are usually considered the best.
Any comments about these or his later albums ?

I love the Doctor. I saw him at Bonnaroo, he performed in the super jam with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, The Del Mccoury preservation hall jazz band, and Patrick Hallahan(The drummer for My morning Jacket.) It was a killer set!
