I have to say Buddy guy is a personal favourite of mine , but clapton still has such a great voice on the instrument when it comes to blues. fantastic

I believe Clapton has referred to Guy as the greatest blues guitarist, or maybe even greatest in general. Buddy is really great, I don't really see any reason why he's not better than Clapton. Clapton is a better songwriter for sure but when you're talking about nothing but blues guitar playing, buddy is just as good. I guess Claptons phrasing is more BB Kingesque, while he has the similar flurry of licks that buddy is so good at.

I think Id probably rank BB King above them both. Sure, they were faster players but BB's smooth phrasing is unparalleled, if you ask me. BB also had a little speed, you just have to listen to the right recordings.

Claptons voice just kills me. I like some of what he does on guitar but it just never has make me think.."WOW...how did he do that?" A lot of it just seems mundane to me.

Melvin Taylor hasn't been mentioned yet, so I will add him now.
It seems that most people, even blues fans, haven't heard of him despite the fact that he's been playing & recording albums for over 30 years.

I strongly consider Jeff Beck a blues guitarist and, what is more, one of the Top 3 white blues guitarists (along with Clapton and SRV).

On the other hand, I think that T-Bone Walker is very underrated. How can everybody remember Robert Johnson and forget T-Bone. In my opinion they are even. Walker had, I believe, the major influence on the King himself - BB King. Jimi Hendrix, when was a little boy watched the things that T-Bone did with his guitar and that had a big influence on Hendrix, too. So, influentially, they are almost even, while as pure guitar skills, I think T-Bone surpasses Johnson a lot. For me, T-Bone is one of the Top 3 blues guitarists of all time for sure. Johnson enters the Top 5, though.

BB King is really good. He has some very catchy songs, especially The Thrill Is Gone. Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix are right next to him, though. It's rather hard to choose which Blues guitarist is the best.

In a televised interview, Carlos Santana said something like this about his playing technique, " Notes are like gold; you shouldn`t waste them. You have to make each one count." Well, I`ve never seen much evidence of that attitude in Santana`s playing - in fact I think Roy Buchanan would illustrate the point better.

Really? Sure, Santana does some shredding where every note doesn't count (especially on his new album), but I think songs like "Europa" and "samba pa ti" are really great examples of making every note count. I can't think of many better
