Anyone recommend me some good scat?

?

That was pretty wonderful.
Question though, I was always under the impression that the 'scat' part of jazz was all about the "skibbity-bops" and whatnot. Is it broader than I had realized?

Necromancer 12-01-2011 05:32 PM

Its defiantly much broader in a big way. All the way from scat in the late 1920s, to bebop in the 1950s, and all the way to hip hop and rappers.

Here is a link that will explain it much better than I can. Ive only caught notice of scat around a year ago, so I am far from being an expert on the subject. The link below can give you more information than I personally can. I hope it contains what your wanting to know.

Ella Fitzgerald is the Queen
Al Jarreau is one of the Best
George Benson always sang along with his guitar solos, which created an unmistakably unique style.
Bobby McFerrin (especially pre-"Don't Worry, Be Happy") had a novel, modern approach to scat singing-I like "Sightless Bird", "Drive", "El Brujo" and others.

Fuck you.

And why did you have to call the thread "Can anyone recommend me some good scat?" It just screams it.

I think there isn't really enough scat around these days. In fact, I'd like to see a lot more people getting involved with scat. I think that would be good.

Howard the Duck 12-03-2011 09:05 AM

it's not a sub-genre i listen to much, i think you really need to be good at jazz scales to "scat" properly and most of what I've heard are just random bleats and "burps"

and no, I'm not into scat-porn, either

Moving away from this fetish abomination, Jazz has often been like ragtime except that there is much more space for improvisation. Scat (not the fetish) is just taking this beyone merely playing different notes, it attempts to create a different melody.

And I fucking hate all fetish porn.

That must be my least favourite pun of the month.

I already like jazz "scat", so there isn't room for another kind. And think how annoying it would be to keep getting the folders mixed up!

Janszoon 12-03-2011 09:18 AM

Just found this pretty sweet video of Ella Fitzgerald scatting like crazy:

Salami 12-03-2011 09:20 AM

That was very good. She is an incredible singer.

Thankfully I'm too young and innocent to know what some of those mean.

And fuck you batlord.

Golden showers means piss porn and upskirt means taking pictures of a girl's panties, preferably when she is unaware. I should think pregnant porn and breastfeeding would be self-explanatory. Hopefully I have in some small way robbed you of a little of your innocence.

That's right, George Benson is, a more modern version (compared with the earlier artist) of scat singing, and he played descent guitar.

Agreed, the singing makes it more interesting.
