Glenn Miller

I searched the forums for a Glen Miller thread, and couldn't find one. How many people in this community like Glen Miller? Favorite songs played by him and his band. My personal favorites are In The Mood and Moonlight Serenade.

I like him alright. There are other bandleaders I like a lot more though.

I have a 3 disc best of album of his which is pretty good. Big band jazz is not generally something that excites me a lot, but it's pleasant enough when the time is right.

I only have one Glenn Miller album so far, hopefully I can get some more, but on vinyl when I can purchase a record player. :D

When talking about big bands I understand what you are saying, I believe them to be more of an acquired taste, some people really dig them and some people can only really stand them on occasion.

Big band for the masses. I don't like Glen Miller.
It's nice to play these records on an old grammophone, but I don't think of it as 'good jazz'

I love the big band / swing era and, while others did it better, I can't imagine a true jazz fan would label his music as 'not good jazz'. Also, he went missing in action trying to help fight the Nazis when he was only 40 years old so he never really got a chance to flourish like some of his peers.
Here's two more of his songs. Both good.

Oh So Good

Both great songs Engine. It really is a shame that he died so early in his life, I would have loved to see Miller progress through time. The Swing Era of music is one I really enjoy, personally I think he was one of the best.. I find his playing and sound to be unmatched in many respects.

Well, there is a reason that he's one of the few household names of the genre. He really is one of the best. Naysayers forgive me but I even love this song:

His music is great and Rhapsody in Blue is another good song. Once I heard him I started to get into swing more.
