Derek Trucks

This guy definitely deserves his own thread. One of the greatest guitarists of his time.

Derek Trucks is an American guitarist, songwriter and founder of the Grammy Award winning, The Derek Trucks Band. He became an official member of The Allman Brothers Band in 1999 and formed the Tedeschi Trucks Band in 2010 with his wife Susan Tedeschi. His musical style encompasses several genres and he has twice appeared on Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.

Trucks credits guitarist Duane Allman and blues man Elmore James as the two slide guitarists that influenced his early style but has since been inspired by John Lee Hooker,Howlin' Wolf and Albert King, Miles Davis, Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian, Wayne Shorter, Freddy King and B.B. King.

His music is reported to encompass categories such as jam band, Southern rock and jazz while simultaneously being rooted in the blues and rock genres. Trucks plays an eclectic blend of blues, soul, jazz, rock, qawwali music (a genre of music from Pakistan and Eastern India), Latin music, and other kinds of world music. Trucks became a fan of Ali Akbar and studied at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael.

His style is very interesting to say the least. There is nobody who plays guitar like he does. You can compare to Duane allman but he still plays nothing like Duane. He's one of the new guitar gods in my opinion. And I just purchased tickets to see him with BB King. Can't wait! Any fans of Derek, here?

 I`m a fan!

How cool it must have been to grow up around the Allman Brothers and then join the band? Butch Trucks is his uncle.

Derek and Warren Haynes is a hard combination to beat!

That was the last track off of The Allman Brothers "Hittin The Note".

I don't know much about Derek Trucks expect he doesn't like The Beatles. I've seen him in a concert with EC, they did Layla a Derek and The Dominoes tune. I wish they also played Bell Bottom Blues at that concert. Why does EC feel its obligatory to play I Shot the Sheriff at concerts? I'll never understand what EC thinks his better songs are. Bell Bottom Blues >>>>>>>>>>>>>> I Shot the Sheriff.

Not a huge fan of his original music, but the guy was definitely an otherwordly talent from the beginning.

11 year old Derek

I didn't know he didn't like the Beatles. He has a very unique style, nobody plays like him.

I love his Indian and jazzy flavored songs

The only thing I dont like about his music is his singer.

This song is great. The album version is much better, though, he does some soloing on it. I'll try to upload it. I don't even know how to classify this song. Or the one above.

Love Derek Trucks. I had the pleasure of seeing him a couple times in smaller venues in Chicago, and he's just gotten better as the years go by. He killed at the Beacon this year:

Just got back from seeing BB king open for the tedeschi trucks band. Hell of a show.

I was really surprised by BB. I saw him last year, this time was much better. I was even more surprised by what he was doin on the guitar. I can tell hes been experimenting with his style, which is something you wouldn't expect from the guy. He was doing some different jazzy things, stuff that obviously wasn't based around the blues scale. It had a little free jazziness to it, really surprising.

Another big surprise of the night, I had no idea how good Susan tedeschi is at the guitar. She could play, that's for sure.

Derek was pretty mind blowing. He's one of a kind, no doubt. I was really blown away at times.

The whole band was great. Great horn section who could also sing very well. Seems like about half the band was a great singer.
