Maybe this is a form of jazz (swing?), maybe it’s not ? This group normally performs strictly classical pieces many of them centuries old.

Yes, but how do you classify bossa nova? There are so many kinds of music if each one had a section of the forum this place would be too huge to handle. Maybe a section titled ‘Crossover’ would help prevent members getting their knickers in a knot over rigid classifications ?

Bossa nova is a style of samba and later incorporated into jazz by like likes of Stan Getz and Quincy Jones. It definitely falls under the jazz umbrella so it's fine that you posted the video in here. There's no need for a another section of this website for crossover. Bossa nova belongs here.

I just found it funny that you were confused if it was a form of jazz since it's been a part of jazz for over 60 years.

Cue you getting defensive for no reason in 3...2...1...

Thanks for the informal psychological assessment. However, my concern is triggered by two things.
1: Ignorance due to my almost exclusive devotion to classical music until an advanced age.
2: The number of times I’ve been slapped on the wrist for placing things in ’the wrong section’ by those I suspect could be termed ‘purists'.

Wat
I don't remember a single time you've been slapped on the wrist for getting a genre wrong

By ’slapped on the wrist’ I’m not referring to critical moderation.

I wasn't assuming you did
