Default Blind Melon???

I don't know how all of you feel about this but I feel that Blind Melon belongs in the category of blues, I think that shannon Hoon was like the male Janis Joplin in his style of singing and although Blind Melon came out of the grunge scene and do still fall into that genre of music as well I have always felt that grunge was really just another form of blues, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam etc... so maybe grunge-blues or rock-blues or something along those lines.
Assuming that anyone else here is a fan and knows songs other than No Rain (which btw the radio/MTV version does not belong in this category but the original Ripped Away version does) and I really hope there are.
MTV calls them a "one hit wonder" even though they had at least 4 well know hits.... but who pays attention to MTV anymore?

If you are a Blind Melon fan and you haven't seen the 2 Meter Session, you should.

I'm a huge Blind Melon fan and an even bigger fan of the grunge movement in general, but I think it's a stretch to call it "blues". Fundamental to the blues is the basic 12 bar blues progression. You might have a little lee way in how you arrange that progression, and a lot of freedom in what you do within the framework of that progression (as well as with the tempo, choice of instruments, etc), but when you abandon that 12-bar progression completely it's really no longer the blues. It's sort of like playing a song without any guitar distortion or heavy volume and calling it "heavy metal". When you take away what fundamentally defines a style, it's not really that style anymore.

That having been said, I loved Blind Melon. Tragic what happened to Shannon Hoon. Eery how it always happens at 27.

I wondered where the blues and jazz = Blind Melon equation came from myself.

There is one in the Indie & Alternative forum.

Blind Melon is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, active from 1990 to 1999 and 2006 onward. Best remembered for their 1993 single "No Rain", the group enjoyed critical and commercial success in the early 1990s with their neo-psychedelic take on alternative rock.

I discovered this band called "Fraser and Debolt" from which I swear Shannon was highly influenced by. They're very folky leaning towards country a bit and some times a lot.

Hard to find there stuff I think one out of the two albums is on What.CD. Check it out if your a melon head.
