First jazz album you bought?

I recently bought my first jazz album - Birds Of Fire by Mahavinshu Orechestra.
what is the first jazz album you bought?

The first jazz album that I bought was John Coltrane's Ascension. Brilliant album, I'd recommend it to any fans of free jazz, moderate or affluent. The first jazz album that I came to love was Masada's Alef, which I listened to for quite a while before expanding into other forms of jazz. This was pretty hard after listening to insanely planned improvisational klemzer jazz, but I grew to love more conventional forms of jazz afterwards.

Although I was listening to jazz before I bought my first jazz album, my very first that I actually "owned" was Herbie Hancock's Thrust. Still my favorite Hancock release. It's just so very, very funky. And look at the album cover!

It's because of that album and funk in general that whenever I hear a child saying that they want to be an astronaut I just think that they want to be a funky jazz musician.

Bitches Brew was my first. Original, I know!

I lost my jazz virginity when I bought this album, recorded in 1962:-

Was I some precocious geek trawling through obscure jazz artists ?
No; somewhat to my surprise, I just found this album in a record shop, shortly after my brother`s then girlfriend played it for us at her house.
Wherever she may be now, I still owe her a debt of thanks: :thumb:

I can't recall the first one. It was probably something from John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Ornette Coleman or Sun Ra.

Must've been John Coltrane's "Lush Life"

I think mine was Coltrane's Giant Steps.
