I am not a fan, but he's a good singer (well was). There are some songs I do enjoy ...

I love my Louis.

One of my favorite singers as well as trumpet players.

It pisses me off so much all the time that I never get around to getting some recordings of his. I know he's one of my favourite musicians, and I know that we have some of his stuff SOMEWHERE in the house, but I can never find it...

Today happens to be Satchmo's 106th Birthday. The radio station WKCR is doing an all-day Louis marathon, you can listen on the internet.

I am bumping this thread since I just finished watching (again) the Ken Burns film Jazz, and Louis is on my mind.

He tops my list of favorite trumpeters*, and he is responsible for so much we take for granted in Jazz.

*Louis Armstrong
Harry "Sweets" Edison
Roy Eldridge
Miles Davis
Clifford Brown
Wynton Marsalis
