Probably no other guitartist has influenced so many guitarists from unknown wannabes to critically acclaimed guitar players worldwide than Buddy Guy. From Hendrix, Clapton, Slash, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, John Mayer, Billy Gibbons, SRV and a host of others Guy helped pioneer and solidify the standard of the blues.
Stevie Ray Vaughan stated that, "Without Buddy Guy, there would be no Stevie Ray Vaughan." "Buddy Guy plays from a place that I've never heard anyone play."
Vaughan continued: Buddy can go from one end of the spectrum to another. He can play quieter than anybody I've ever heard, or wilder and louder than anybody I've ever heard. I play pretty loud a lot of times, but Buddy's tones are incredible. He pulls such emotion out of so little volume. Buddy just has this cool feel to everything he does. And when he sings, it's just compounded. Girls fall over and sweat and die! Every once in a while I get the chance to play with Buddy, and he gets me every time, because we could try to go to Mars on guitars but then he'll start singing, sing a couple of lines, and then stick the mike in front of me! What are you gonna do? What is a person gonna do?!
Jimi Hendrix himself once said that "Heaven is lying at Buddy Guy’s feet while listening to him play guitar."

Long live the legend, music and person of Buddy Guy

Buddy's new album Rhythm & Blues, released on 7/30/13, is a real treat for his fans. It's a two CD tribute to rhythm and blues.

The Rhythm disc includes rhythm and blues-style blues with deep grooves, such as the Junior Wells' 1960 hit "Messin' With The Kid" featuring Kid Rock, the touching "One Day Away" with Keith Urban, and "What You're Gonna Do About Me," a rousing duet with Beth Hart. Guy rounds out the disc with "Best In Town," "Whiskey Ghost," Guitar Slim's "Well I Done Got Over It" and more.

The Blues disc taps into the genre's rich history with "Meet Me In Chicago," "I Could Die Happy," "Never Gonna Change" and "All That Makes Me Happy Is The Blues." Aerosmith's Tyler, Perry and Whitford contribute to the musical lesson with "Evil Twin" while Gary Clark, Jr. joins Guy on "Blues Don t Care."

Hold That Plane! is a masterpiece. Also be sure to check out the footage of Buddy from the concert documentary Festival Express.

I've seen him in concert at the House of Blues. A friend of mine is a big fan of his, so he asked me to go with him. I was game. Buddy likes to go out into the audience and mingle a little while as he's playing guitar. We mere inches from him. He's an amazing showman.

I decided to turn it into a watercolor painting with some photo software I use, so it wouldn't be a total loss.

Too bad it didn't turn out the way you wanted, but it still looks pretty cool.

I think Buddy Guy is an outstanding guitarist, and such a massive influence on a whole generation of blues players.

I had a CD with a version of 'The first time i met the blues' and it totally blew me away the first time I heard it.

I practiced to it for hours and hours, and what a voice.
