Default Charles Mingus wouldn't tolerate THIS!

Hey guys!
I've been searching for quite a while for a good musician forum, and hopefully this one is IT !

Anyways, I've just started my first year on Saxophone with the goal to become a great player in a few years, I'm currently studying 3 standards from the Real book and I'm playing the tune "Goodbye pork pie hat" by Charles Mingus..

Thing is... I've played yesterday with a friend and I had major Rhythmic problems, I realized I wasn't landing on beat at all and that was a major MAJOR problem to which we eventually had to call it quits and send me home with my sax to contemplate on how to solve the problem..

How do you work out your rhythmic sense and reading? ,How do you read and understand a bar of two triplets ?

Thanks for the help !
