Caught this wild **** from the late show on public radio last night while doing the dishes. Actually, shut the water off to hear it better and make sure I caught the name of the guy. Love the warbling and the spoken word in here. Really great stuff.

Pretty shameful we didn't have a Pharoah thread yet tbh

This is one of my favourite songs ever

His best stuff is as a sideman though

The live version from his 1982 live album is the best version of that song I've heard. John Hicks on Piano, Walter Booker on Bass, and Idris Muhammad on drums. Tight...

As far as Sanders goes, he's my second favorite sax player. I love the sqwalk. His work with Leon Thomas is the most accessible and some of my favorite jazz vocal work on any record. I have a pretty decent Pharoah Sanders record collection as well.

Karma
Jewel of Thought
Pharoah Sanders Quintet
Summun Bukmun Umyun - Deaf Dumb Blind
Black Unity
Thembi
Village of the Pharoahs
Elevation
Live...

All original presses. Still looking for Tauhid and most of his late 70's and 80's stuff. He was also a fantastic element of Alice Coltrane's lineup, especially on Ptah and Journey In Satchidananda. Dude also played with John Coltrane on some of his more free records and was in the Jazz Composers Orchestra.

Absolute monster of a figure who was an Exo avatar for some time so you know it's good ;)

well... yeah :)

Yo, I'm trying to figure out which piece was shat on below, Béla Tarr's Werckmeister Harmonies or Sander's The Creator Has A Master Plan (from the '69 lp, Karma) in this clip.
Both pieces are individual masterworks (imo) but I dunno...

Thought that the name of the band sounded familiar. 'Movement 1' was one of the songs that got me interested in music last year. Gonna listen to the whole album soon.

By the way, I love this by Sanders

Thembi, Wisdom Through Music, and Africa are some of my favorite albums of all time. I LOVE his music; pure magic.
