haha..far from it, i guess we're just more easy going as a nation, we don't think it's the end of the world if certain people don't like us, the goths as you call them can be just as popular and intelligent as the "geeks" or the "jocks", in fact, most of the guys in my class were metalheads, but i guess that goes with the teritory ( we were the math and computer science division of the gimnasium - that's what those types of schools are called , we also have highschools for economics, electronics, tourism etc. gymnasiums are for the more intelligent people)....girls that would be popular in american highschools don't get into gimnasiums, they go to beauty school..
and there's no bullying, "geeks" are respected for their intelligence....i've noticed that many people in america look at highschool as the worst time in their life precisely because of the divisions on popular and non-popular people and the bullying done by the populars.....that's horrible....i can't imagine it happening in croatia....noone is purposly excluded here, noone is friendless, we're all in it together and we support each other....

so there is no "general eduction" there? where everybody attends the same classes and learns the same info?

after elemetary school ( you finish it by the age of 14 ) everyone has to chose a specific highschool, if their grades aren't that great they chose the specailised highschools ( like economics, tourism, and various other trade schools ), gymnasiums are general education highschools ( they have at least 12 subjects, and you don't get to chose them, they are the same for everyone:math, geography, physics, chemistry, history, gym, art, biology, computer science, english, croatian, italian ,religion or ethics, latin, and in 3rd and 4th year psycology, logics and philosophy) so after you finish the gymnasium you have to go to collegge because without it you are not qualified to do anything....

Can one of you Euros explain how the school system works there. I think our "college" and "high school" imply different things.

wow adidasss, that's quite similar to what it's like over here
though you can choose whether you're taking history and literature related classes, or math and science kinda ones.
i do have to study latin and it sucks ass
other than that, you have logics in the 9th grade, psychology in the 10th and economy classes (whatever they're called) in the 11th
we have some "optional" classes (that everyone's got to take) and you can choose from religion and geography
that's how it works in romania, or at least in my highschool
and the highschool thing is like adidasss said, you start it at 15 years old and you finish at 18. then you go to a university or whatever

oh by the way, i'm none of the options in the poll... i'm one of those who count the minutes till they get out

You go to primary school for 7 years.
Then you go to high school for the next 4, 5 or 6.
Then you choose either to go to college or university.

maybe in Brittain, but it means the same here as it does there, we just have specialised highschools and collegges, unlike you, who have general highschools and collegges....and american collegges fascinate me, i've seen several shows on tv where the main characters are really fighting hard for their right to go to collegge and confornt their parents and whatnot, and then when they get to collegge they chose subjects like photography and pottery....and i think you don't have to chose a major for a couple of years, so essentially you're still learning bullshit, nothing that will qualify you for a job.....
