Ok you no what............. Wht does everybody have to lable. there is no such thing as punk. punk is really just the definition of a trouple maker. i hate when people go around claming that they were punk or a pimp or player or goth or skater. it drives me insain. You cant even step out your front door without being juged. this world is going down peice by stinking peice but everybody is so cought up in advertisements that they are blind to reality. please just stop this. thanks. :soapbox:

You have a point. But thats just the way society works. As much as it sucks you can't do anything about it, it's human nature. Even people who hate people that judge still judge other people. Whether you want to admit it or not, I judge people, you judge people. It's inevitable.

I hate story of the year. But that's besides the point....Basically somebody just got things started by getting called a punk one day, and then they just ran with it. It's nothing bad, I wouldn't want to really label myself after the music I listen to, but if that's their thing then it's okay.

Punk is a british thing. Mostly a political and social movement, it started as a band of people that disliked the way a nonexistant entity known as "society" dictated how we should dress, how we should look, how we should talk, etc. Punks in general consider "society" to be neo facism.

On the other hand you have American punks, who in most cases are braindead teenagers that either imitate parts of the british Ska movement, or parts of the british Punk movement. Failing that they just dress in ****ies and vans, and listen to bands like Blink 182, the offspring, etc.

But really, belonging to a culture doesn't make you less of an individual, it just puts you among the sort of people you prefer to be around. Someone might find a punk offensive because they do not share their ideals, but has absolutely no problem with them as a person.

I am a bit of a collision of various cultures, mostly leaning toward extreme sports, alternative, and some punk. I like songs by Nirvana, but on the other hand I also like tunes by The Hives and Aphex Twin. I'm not limited to one single culture subtype, but my tastes are in very much the same kind of area.

Everyone likes to feel that they belong o a certain group of people with whom they share a common interest, or goal, etc. That's why you hang aroudnw ith the people you do, you must have something in common, otherwise you wouldn't be friends. Some people feel the need to latch on to a certain distinct group for whatever reason. what's wrong with that? it doesn't make them a bad person, or a weaker person, they just have a different way of interacting with the rest of the world.

Yeah exactly. It confuses me when people start talking about cultures and lifestyles as if they are like sheep.

What really winds me up though, are people who consider the way they dress, the music they listen to, etc, "respectable" and "normal". They don't seem to understand that they are a member of a culture and lifestyle just like I am, to them it's more like normal people and strange people.

I get asked things like "You're a very pretty girl but why do you have that awful lip piercing?" all the time from these people. My answer is always "because I like it". Then they start to suspect me of trying to "fit in" and "be like everyone else".

It truely baffles me.

im not saying people should not try to fit in.im saying people should not judge people about the way they look or act or the things they do or the people they hang out with. if you want to go and fit in fine but dont judge other people. oh by the way story of the year is awsome!

Actually, judging people by their appearance is a pretty good way to do it.

The way a person dresses tells you which culture they belong to, and consequently what they beleive in. It is very easy to judge a person by what they beleive in.

For instance, a christian would beleive in god, and this therefore means he is quite forgiving, kindly, and thoughtful.

See what I mean?

Religions, beleive it or not, are cultures too.
