So i'm writing this in Fernie, and today I learned how important it is to make time for the things you love doing. Instead of going out with my friends and getting drunk, I left thursday night right after class, and drove three 1/2 hours to the mountains. I have to say, today was the most epic day of skiing of my life. I woke up at 7:30 this morning to explosions off in the mountains. I looked out the window and it was puking. Absolutley puking snow. It was going to be a good day. 1 hour, 1 bagel and two red bulls later, i was in the lift line, waiting for the lifts to be opened at 9. there were 3 other people there, First Chair for me. Now, since i've been out for the past 3 weeks with a knee injury, i wanted to get my legs back into shape, so i made a deal with myself: I couldn't go anywhere on the mountain that I didnt have to hike to get to. First run, I hike up alone, and when I get to the top, I cannot believe my eyes. Knee deep to thigh deep powder, complete dry, and feather light. That first run is something i'll remember my entire life. Snow flying in my face, effortless turns, and when i got to the bottom, I realized i had a huge grin on my face and hadn't even noticed. The entire day was like that. I didnt even go in for lunch because I couldnt bear to tear myself away, just ran into the lodge, grabbed a few power bars and a gatorade, stuffed em in my backback and was back on the lifts in less than five minutes. Hours later, even when my legs litterally stopped working, I just bent my knees and hobbled around until I regained some control of my muscles, and dove back in. it was snowing so hard that my tracks were covered up by the time i got back up to the top. I finished the day off freezing, dripping wet, tired as hell, legs frozen and stiff completely ignoring any signal I gave them to move, and happier than i've been in I can't even remember how long. So here's a lesson for all of you: find out what makes you happiest, and do everything you can to be able to spend as much time as possible doing that. I missed out on 3 parties, 2 dates, and a free limo package to the one club that I don't hate in the entire city, and I could not be happier that I'm in another province, completely alone, and skiing.
