Google Controversy...thougts?

So, there has been quite a fuss about the government forcing the popular search engine Google.com to hand over a portion of their search history to the Justice Department, as to crack down on internet pornography and things of that nature. A lot of people seem to think that its an infringement on our privacy, and that it shouldnt be done. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this?

I'm not sure, it is only a search engine, I think we should have the freedom to search in private.

Meh. I'm a little sidelined.

I think it's not so bad if they want to eliminate child porn and things, the really immoral stuff. But I don't see the big deal with ordinary porn though, it's nothing bad, you can buy it in shops...

On the other hand, it is just a friggin search engine and it is a little fustrating to see agencies pushing their heads further up political correctness's arse.

Shouldn't they be saving donkeys or something cultural.

thats kinda the way i see it too. there are better, more important things they could be doing.

The U.S. government can already monitor Google usage to see what is being searched for. They're after propriety data which Google has no obligation to declare.

IF this was all about how often people were searching for porn on the internet, then the answer is simple. Very often.

I went with yes. I'm too lazy and I don't care enough to bother explaining why I support what I support.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-27-2006 12:16 PM

I wonder what conclusions the US government would draw from me searching for pictures of monkeys on bikes & saddam hussein in his underpants?

I voted yes.

Imonlydancing 01-27-2006 02:52 PM

Oh yeah.
I heard about this on the News.
It's silly.
I think you should be allowed to search what you like.
What if you want to find something that's related to the government or whatever and you can't get onto that site.
