What to give up for Lent?
 

Hey, I was wondering what in God's name would be some good new choices to give up for Lent this year?If ya got any good ideas, write 'em down so we could all take a look at 'em, cheers!!!;)

im not catholic so i dont really understand the whole idea of giving anything up for lent, or what lent even is. (btw im pretty sure this is in the wrong forum, or else its just one really crappy song:laughing: )

I'm not catholic, but if I was I'm pretty sure I'd give up sweets or something cliche like that.

Everybody's givin' up candy/sweets at one time or another!!!I was just wondering if anyone in here actually had any new/original ideas, see?

I tried this, and it didn't work. I gave PE up for Lent and my coach wouldn't go for it :(. He made me run...still and I'm not even catholic

i'm not planning on giving anything up this year (wonders if i ever actually have) i don't care enough.. its a pointless thing to do really.

almost like having christmas (jesus's birthday) on dec 25 every year.. when he was said to be born on jan 6th (old chirstmas day) i mean really can you just change a persons birthday??? so stupid....

if i was going to give up anything it would be dirty sexual thoughts.. but seeings how thats how my brain works it would be inpossible... so fuck that shit.. i enjoy my life far to much :)

The Catholic religion is full of these type of things-you always have to give up something or do more of something. I can't see what the point of it all is to be honest. The good thing about it is though it forces people to lay off fatty foods and whatever for about a month. So it's a good way to diet, but that's the only thing it is. I think the only time I have ever given up something for Lent was chocolate. And that lasted all of 2 days.

EDIT: I just read explosions' post and I also feel that the whole Jesus birthday thing is stupid. It has been proved that Jesus' birthday is Jan 6th, yet Christmas stays on December 25th obviously because it would be 'bad for business'. That shows you just how important the Catholic religion is these days.

Methinks it was september, its what Ive always been taught. . . Around about the 29th I believe. I think the Greeks started the january 6th thing, it relates to when their Gods were born or something along those lines. . .

Anyway, hell knows why I know that.

And yeah, I was lame and gave up eating chocolate & crisps [I chose to say "eating" so I could still drink hot chocolate] but then yesterday I completely forgot about it until half way through a packet of chocolate hobnobs :(

No there's no bad luck attached to Lent. I think it's classed as a sin though. Then again everything is *lights up a spliff downs a bottle of Stella and bangs a prostitute*

The point of lent is to give something up to show how 'Jesus' gave something up for 40 days and 40 nights, if you're not christian/don't believe in Jesus then what's the point in doing it, right?
I know people say it's a good chance to diet or whatever, but really. I don't do it, cos I'm athiest.
Then, people go & say 'well christmas is for christians, why do you celebrate it?' Christmas has become so commercial nowadays and even jews, or hindus in england celebrate it. If you're christian it's for remembering the birth of christ and spending time with the ones you love, for everyone else, it's really just presents.

Catholosim is just as much a sect of Cristianity as Baptist, or Lutheran. It is just much more broad.
