Peter Jackson is from New Zealand and the film was filmed in New Zealand, but the producers of the film were American I think. As the story was British and most of the actors were American or British then it was pretty international, but the country of the producers gets first dibs.

England should take credit for it though. Marijan, take your USA comment back! Republican bastard!

Thinking about it, only the rubbish actors in the film were American. Elijah Wood and Liv Tyler. Ok, Sean Astin was good, but he sounded British in the movie anyway... Yeah, we get Lord of the Rings, along with the Kiwis (the Aussies can have a bit of the action too, for giving us Hugo Weaving and Cate Blanchett).

Sort out your facts please! LOTR is as much American as I am.

You thought Sean Astin was good? I thought he was terrible. Return of the King was on the other day. One of the end scenes, where Frodo is recovering in bed and all the gang come to see him-worst scene EVER.

k, is it really that important what country its from? This is jibbers leaving thread not a movies discussion. Like, MB is been falling back into its "everythread turning into an arguement that has nothing to do with the topic" mode again, tis kinda ridiculous.

TrampInaTux 04-10-2006 03:58 AM

I know. It's true. Then again I've said my goodbyes to Jibber, but I agree that this should be moved to the Movies Thread where discussions like these actually belong. I got so caught up in the moment! Sorry Jib!

If people got their facts correct before posting, 99% of this sh*t would cease.

And I'm not picking on anyone in particular either.

tom said it right, the film is usually attributed to the country of it's producers, you don't actually think new zealand companies could have produced such a monster do you? the company that pays for the film is the one credited for it. new line cinema is american as far as i know. otherwise you could say that the matrix is an australian film, or that mary full of grace is columbian ( it's filmed entirely in spanish but it's still an american film ).
