Thinking out loud...well, typing out loud

Here are a few things that have crossed my mind in the year I have been here. Feel free to answer, ponder, or ignore any or all.

Also, feel free to put your own ponderences and or observations in this thread as well.

1. I have heard a lot of people mention 'senior members'. Is there a definition of this? Is it by post count? Is it by time here? Is it by post content? I mean there are people who've been here 3 months, who have 5 times more posts than I do.

2. What is the differenc between being pwned, and being flamed?

Ok, that's all I have right now.

I think the answer to the first question is people who have spent more time here. You could come onto the forum and if you are a loser within a week you could have 1,000 posts. That wouldn't really make you a senior member, just a nerd.

And as for the second question, being owned is when you get the upper hand on someone in a situation and make them look stupid. Being flamed is (I think) when you get followed around the forum and argued at. It's a form of spamming, me thinks, only crueller.

jr. 04-23-2006 12:54 PM

So, you have 1,000 more posts than me, in 6 less months. Does that make you a senior member, or a nerd?

BTW, were you just pwned, or flamed?

*edit* Sorry, but you just left it there. I had to.

TrampInaTux 04-23-2006 12:56 PM

I was pwned.... Oh my God... you've only just found out the meaning and you have pwned me...

jr. 04-23-2006 01:00 PM

Well, I see a lot I could comment on, but I mostly just stay out of things. I try not to get away from the main idea of this place, which is music.

However, today, it's raining, I am bored, and there is nothing in the new posts I can comment on without making myself look foolish. So, I am goofing off. Starting this thread is a prime example of that. I also posted in one about video games, one in the picture gallery. Boredom. LOL.

riseagainstrocks 04-23-2006 01:12 PM

haha we love you jr. :)

and senior members is a combination of Time spent here, post content and a little bit of it is post count.

and "pwn" is dominating someone "flame" is like and internet squabble. a pointless arguement that usually spills over into many different threads.

jr. 04-23-2006 05:40 PM

Ok, I have another question....

How do you tell who the moderators are? Do they have any identifying symbols next to their names, or anything like that?

And here is an observance:

The lead solo in ELO's Mr. Blue Sky sounds just like Brian May of Queen.

And one more question:

Am I the only one who is going to try and get this thread rolling?

swim 04-23-2006 05:45 PM

no but if you look at the people who are on part of the page they're gray.

i thought these were just your own personal questions, not a just wondering type of thread.

why's your avatar a cool ninja-ish guy?

jr. 04-23-2006 05:49 PM

The cool looking Ninja guy is His Holiness the Dalai Lama. And he is cool. LOL.

No, this thread isn't just for me. I just thought it would be a neat place for people to make observations. Not neccesarily all about music. You know, if someone heard a song and said "so and so's voice cracks a little bit on that one word".

Just little observations. Who knows? Maybe someone will learn something.

For instance...I don't know if any of you watch that CSI Miami show, but the red haired guy, as soon as he stops walking, puts his hands on his hips. Every time. Even if you can't see it on the screen, you can see his shoulders go up a little. You know he's doing it. And, once you see it, you can't not see it.

You know something that's exactly like that? The kid in Dazed and Confused, with the long hair. He's constantly squeezing his nose, and once you notice it or someone tells you about it, you notice it every time, just like the hands on the hips.

Anyway, I could easily look this up, I suppose, but I like jr., so I'll help out with his thread. Does anyone know what it means when a movie is shot in letterbox format? Like, what it looks like on screen?
