The thing about the old "rotten English Weather" isn't even about the amount of rain (and being from Derbyshire I get more than everywhere else in England except Cumberland), but the fact that it's always dull and overcast, and even if it looks fine you have to pack plenty of waterproof clothing in the likely event of another downpour.

However to be slightly more optimistic, I remember reflecting whilst being drenched watching the Pageant that this must signal the end for that hosepipe ban hitting the London folk, which probably only effects one sixteenth of you anyway, but still...

The annual hosepipe ban in the UK must be one of the biggest jokes on the calender, I mean its not like we lack rain throughout the year.

It got up to 100 yesterday and only dropped to about 70 degrees at night and pretty much stayed there. When I woke up at 7 I was amazed how warm it felt outside. Fortunately it's not going to get like that again this week, except maybe one day, and then it's going to drop to the low 80s / high 70's which I can deal with.

Funny, since I always thought England had lovely weather. Moderate to cool year round, mild winters, grey skies.... I just like the melancholy of it all. But then again, people do say I should live there. Our winters here in Canada are intense. We probably get an average of a foot of snow to shovel every week in the winter (in southern Ontario, at least), and temperatures have been known to drop as low as -35 C.

But I would miss sunny days on the beach and the magnificent thunderstorms and extreme weather we get here. Southern Ontario is Canada's hot spot, and we get the occasional tornado. But it's always been a dream of mine to be a storm chaser! Tornadoes have fascinated me for as long as I can remember.

I've noticed that July is usually hotter than August in Spain now, so with everything moving a month forward....
