I don't understand why people take wrestling seriously? Isn't just fake entertainment lol?

Most entertainment is fake.

It's choreographed and scripted, but the wrestlers still have to execute their moves perfectly, which is no walk in the park, it still requires a lot of serious training and experience to make it in the big leages as a professional wrestler, especially when there are no double takes or edits since it's all live... People still get hurt all the time, it can get especially serious when someone makes even the most minor mistake in executing a certain move.

I used to be a HUGE wrestling fan, but I lost interest when WWE president Vince McMahon (a true jackass) bought all the other big (and better) American wrestling federations and folded them just to show how much of a damn jerk he is (ooh look, I destroyed thousands of careers, but at least I get to make more money), as well as putting more emphasis on lame ass storylines, one dimensional stereotypes, cheap shock value and incredibly bad acting and less on actual wrestling.

I don't watch WWE anymore, but I still like to catch some of the independants when they're on local TV, because they put away all the melodramatic crap and don't try to be all serious (and fail miserably), they just get to the basics and deliver the cheap thrills, which is what wrestling is (and should be) all about, it's cheesy as hell, but that's part of it's appeal.

Wrestling is much more popular in Japan and Mexico, and it's taken much more seriously as a "sport", they do away with storylines and focus on more realistic wrestling.

Get Beyond The Mat, it's a very smart and accurate look at the wrestling business, even non-wrestling fans will enjoy it.
