17 weeeks isn't too bad. At least you aren't drowned in it.
Over here Rugby is almost a year long thing these days, and the organisers wonder why crowd attendences are low, people are just all rugby'd out. |

The point i`m making is ALL sport in the UK is very much based on community spirit. Local rivalries and tradition are a big big thing. And that goes right up to the top clubs. No matter how much Manchester Utd beat teams from Europe and win trophies they`ll always get the most satisfaction from hammering Manchester City or Liverpool.Arsenal fans love beating the crap out of Tottenham. You introduce franchises over here and it`s seen to rip the heart out of clubs and it just becomes a name.Yet over there it seems pretty common. I`m not sure what you mean by 'our one English team'. Wimbledon are an English soccer team playing in the English league.I was using them as an example of how franchising doesn`t work over here. I just wondered what you thought about it and if you think there`s any good from it seeing you see it more often over there Thats all |

T.O. ?
Come on, your supposed to be explaining this crap for us Brits |
Terrell Owen. He's some douche wide receiver and everything I hate about professional sports.

he used to play for the philadelphia eagles. he was a very good player actually. but he got into some trouble with his mouth because he demanded a pay raise because of his skill. (he deserved it) but people (his teammates) weren't too happy with his disses so they traded him to the Dallas Cowboys who pay him very well. T.O. wasn't too happy with the change because it meant having to leave philly (where he lived). |
Oh , Like Ashley Cole here then.
Sorry I mean A.C. :D |
the only amrican team i can ruely say i like is....
the carolina panthers, they're not bad but they could be better my old boss pissed me off during the super bowl by writing the opping team was going to win everywhere... |
I like Carolina a lot as well.

In the simpliest terms I can phrase it, American Football Is the one place in american soceity where one can impose thier will on another Physically. To answer some of your qustions,
There are 40 secons between plays typicly if the team leader ( Normally the QB) cannot orginize the play in that amount of time he calls a timeout to keep the team from receiving a 5 yard delay of game penalty . The clock stops when a timeout is called or a forward pass does not reach an offensive player. |
There are 25 seconds between each play.
Edit: Oh, professional is a bunch of wankers, they do 40. College does 25. |

Actually, the Super Bowl is the most widely viewed professional sports championship besides the World Cup Final.
|
Actually the FA Cup final is a lot bigger than the Superbowl.
484 Million people watched last years FA Cup final. All I can find for the Superbowl is 95 million and thats worldwide audience figures. |
That estimate of the FA Cup final audience seems a tad high - a better estimate from a marketing website is 161 million - 90% of that would be from outside the UK by my reckoning.
Incidentally the European Football Championship final should also be cosnidered - the 2004 final between Portugal and Greece attracted approx 150 million |
