What say ye?

I'm a fan of putting out many random band bulletins on myspace and here is one I just put out. Worthwhile or not, what do you think?

"Hello,

now this may sound a quite sad (geeky sad, not crying sad), here goes.

If you are considering coming to our next gig, or any gig in the future then:

1. Please do.
2. Feel free to come up and speak to us at that gig (even while we're onstage!)

If you DO feel like speaking to us, but don't know us personally yet, then I recommend:

1. You approach US, because you already have some idea of who we are and can identify us because we were the ones on the stage.
2. You start the conversation with the phrase "Hi, my name is (your name). You're on my myspace friends list."

Do not worry that you are intruding upon our personal space/conversations, as I am giving you permission right now to speak to us without need for any further invitation. You don't have to think of a witty opener, an interesting topic to discuss or a compliment to break the ice... just coming up and saying hello will be fine :)

Cheers,

Tom

kinda lame ( read= too polite ) Tom, either make a joke about it or forget it...people that wanna talk to you, will....those who won't won't be persuaded with the bulletin....

You are probably right. Never mind.

OH, NEW TRACK UP ON OUR WEBSITE. I DIDN'T PUT IT UP, BUT IT'S APPEARED THERE SOMEHOW.

This is actually a BAND recording, not just me playing the guitar and singing.

Honest, honest opinions would really be appreciated on this one. The more thorough the better. As there's only one person on here who's in Brum, I'm clearly not saying this for publicity. I'd really, really like your opinions on it.

Not just the song, not just the lyrics, everything you can think of good or bad.

Your band was jodileeparker right?

I'm now listening to Leopard Print: I really like it! But there is some distortion in it I don't like. Maybe the sound quality?

Not much of a place: I like it! Beautiful voice, and it's good that the guitar get's more and more in the picture during the song, it makes it build up. Nice effect!:)

Lets Pretend: I don't really like this song, but that's probably because the type of song doesn't really attract me. The background vocals kind of annoy me. I like the guitar in this one though.

He never thought to...(ehh what's next?): beautiful! ^^

Anybody else?

The maxim "if you don't have anything nice to say, keep quiet" does not apply here.

Meaning, whatever you're thinking just say it, even if you hate the new song.

OK

It`s not bad,a little generic with a bit of work I would even listen to an album without being strapped down. But only if you didn`t record the same thing over and over again and threw in a bit of diversity.

I do have one criticism and this isn`t just at you , but in general.

[RANT] But for the love of god WHY??????? do so many bands insist on making so many quiet / loud / quiet / loud / quiet / loud songs.
It`s been done to death .... stop doing it ,do something different , find something more original to do. It does nothing but make you sound exactly the same as many thousand British rock bands around that are currently trying to get a record deal.[/RANT]

From listening to the song which our guitarist mixed, I tend to agree.

For a start, I'm annoyed that our guitarist (who mixed it) used the vocal takes where I'd lapsed into a semi-american sounding accent, instead of all of the other ones where I keep my normal speaking accent.

I'm annoyed that I never got to record the synth-violin lines that I put into a previous version and which did something to liven up what seems to be otherwise dull-as-ditchwater backing to the verses.

I'm annoyed that, now I can hear them properly, the guitar lines run over the vocal lines and just get in the way of the melody which, considering this was written from the vocals, with a chord structure, is just stupid. There are so many guitar rhythms and lines which could have been used and he has to use the ones which clash with the vocals.

I'm annoyed that there is no style whatsoever in the production, only bad levels so the guitar and drums are too loud compared to the vocals.

Overall, I'm annoyed that even though the 2nd, 3rd and 4th song on the site were recorded and mixed at home by me with a £10 mic and a £40 guitar going into my computer, the resulting music is (to me at least) more appealing, more interesting and probably more original than our band recording which involved a studio and some very expensive equipment.

On the basis of Leopard Print, if this wasn't my own band's music I wouldn't choose to listen to that song again, whereas "Not Much of A Place" and "Let's Pretend" I would listen to again.
