Has anyone seen that Velvet Underground Acetate on eBay

If you haven't you can see the bidding here.

Well, I own a copy.

I bet it skips so much it doesn't even work. What kind of stupid completist spends 100k on a record anyway?

tdoc210 12-04-2006 07:46 PM

its skips on the first and 8th track.. only at the beginning

:O $120,000 (about £60,000 in real money) is a lot for one record! It's probably so fragile it can't be played much either.

It's not the actual record, it's an intermediate review copy they made while they were recording. One of a kind. Which in no way justifies it reaching $100,000 because all ****ty band review copies tend to be one (or two/three) of a kind.

I think it's the story they've written for it that has bumped up the value a lot. A lot of the twits bidding think it's actually an important piece of music history. It's not.

EDIT: Look at the bidder history, it's pretty hilarious when you think they go between buying a pair of $10 headphones to bidding $100,000 for a record. Are they planning on listening to that record through those cheapy headphones?

hiu 12-05-2006 02:06 PM

Obviously they aren't going to listen to it. They'll put it on the computer and mass produce it on cd and make millions.

I would buy it and invite everyone who wanted to listen to it and we'd all sit in a huge room... and I'd bring it up to the player and then I'd whip out a DiGiornio's pizza and start eating it off of the record. I would then laugh as the people ran at me to stop it... but it already happened... what are you gonna do about it?
