I grew up watching non-american comedies on PBS like Vicar of Dibley, Red Dwarf, Red Green, and Coupling (the american version was a colossal flop). But I think some of the stuff on adult swim now is pretty genius. So I go either side of the pond/border on comedy.

I love British humor, mainly, The Mighty Boosh, and, The Monty Python show. It's outrageous.

I still don't really like The Mighty Boosh
The only thing they're really really well known for is their 'crimping' thing that they coined Apart from that it just seems a bit... well... stupid to be honest I mean, I'm not a huge fan of the newer British comedy shows anyway (apart from the panel/quiz shows, those are hilarious) I much prefer the older (pre-2000) shows |
I dont like The Mighty Boosh either. 'Stupid' isnt always a bad thing, stupid can be done and done well in a way that is still comprehensible and makes sense. The Mighty Boosh always just seemed stupid for no good reason to me, and I'm not down with that.

Not officially comedy, but still........

Just to prove that not all British folk speak like Hugh Grant, here's one of the best comedy series ever to come out of Britain.
This is Phoenix Nights, based in t'North. :thumb: |
Phoenix Nights is a bag of bollocks.
|
I don't mind Phoenix Nights.
I do however think that Peter Kay is one of the most boring stand up comedians going. And the less said about Paddy McGuinness and Dave Spikey the better. I don't mind Neil Fitzmaurice though. |
I'm not reading through 23 pages of comments...so here's my opinion: They're both equal, it just depends where you look. 30 Rock, It's always sunny in Philadelphia, Extras, The Office.. They're all on par with one another. Of course there's also ones that don't work as well...which in america is the norm. Few shows show signs of quality, and the ones that do usually die off pretty fast. It could be the same in Britain, but I don't live there.
|
I just don't like/get American Humour. 10% of the output I watch from American during the course of the year I actually find funny, the rest of it just serves to entertain me, maybe the odd smile.
Therefore, I'm going to ignore it exists and simply list good British comedies. Spaced. |
Best ITV comedy in the last 15 years. I miss this show. |

British vs. American comedy?
Ricky Gervais FTW! |
Early Doors is marvellous
|
Early Doors is spectacular I agree. I really believe that, like The Royle Family, you dont need to be British to appreciate it but I have a feeling it helps. I have a feeling that you cant truly appreciate everything about it if you arent British.
I'd love another seies too but maybe too much time has passed now? |
