I'm not a completely terrible player, but I'm not sure how I'll fare against you guys. I don't have any strategies or move sequences, I tend to just amble along until my opponent forces me to react.

Added.

I used to play a bit of chess. My advice would be that when opening look to control the centre of the board. White should open with either E4, D4 and C4. Unless aware of opening theory no other opening should be used. No matter what the colour develop your minor pieces, those are your knights and bishops and also look to castle your king into safety.

Knights and Bishops are, in theory, of equal value. If one retains their bishops into the middle and end game they will be more valuable in an open game. The reverse applies in a closed game. Knights are more useful.

I will join later and have a game against anyone interested. Play a bit of music while playing a bit of chess. Seems like a great idea.

I have never played online. i'm wondering whether I will actually miss the physicality of moving the pieces and looking at it in 3D. I did have a match that went on four hours a few years back when i was a chef. We had a phase of finishing then cracking open the beers and the chess board. Some damn late nights lol.

Tip for you if your a big knight fan: In the beginning of the game after doing your opening setup move out your bishops and attack there knights. It will be a trade but in the end you will be much better off having the two knights while they only have bishops.

Don't count the bishops out, the longer their in the game the more dangerous they become. They have the issue of appearing to be blocked by their own pieces when their actually not.

Horses you are looking for the blockade breaker, those bishops are scary.
