Eyeball Records
...sucks the c0ck.
IndieHQ [Eyeball Records brings down music blog/pirating site, Kinixtion] Anyway it's got me think that musicbanter is sharing based not greediness or laziness but out of like love you know. And with new admin and shit like this I don't know if that will always be. I honestly think that sharing promotes buying. I wouldn't listen to 99% of what I listen to if it wasn't for stealing. |
as long as you change the link or code it they cant find out right?
|
No. They can still find out. All it takes is for one label to run over my site and it's gone. I took a demo off of it today because a band asked me.
The upload sites don't contact the music industry that people are using their site illegally. More than likely because if they contacted them then they'd be shut down and would cease to make money. So the upload sites check uploads that get an extremely high number of hits [that seems to just be just sendspace that does a hit thing everyone else does the latter] or linked from a certain area a lot and delete them to save their own ass. |
What if we just pm the uploads? They can't check those.
|
Yea mailing lists are pretty safe.
Upload sites don't keep a record of who downloads from them, right? I mean I figure they need as much server space as they can get. |
Yeah I PMed urban about this, they give you time to take down the uploads though. But if everyone could start PMing links that'd be better, I know live shows and sessions are usually legally, the RIAA shut down elliottsmithbsides but the live album stayed up.
I could restart the mailing list, MX does it. |
Twango - Media Sharing: Photos, Video, Audio and More
I think this site allows groups to open a channel (it can be private ie; members on invitation only, or public), where files can be uploaded and shared between members of that group. e.g; MusicBanter Channel (if one was made) then you can access the channel by entering an e-mail address...not too sure how it works, but it may be worth checking out further. |
I just have the feeling that if the admin were confronted that this place would be wiped clean or abandoned. It would be pretty difficult to find all the upload links on this place.
|
We'd just have to delete the sharing threads, search on the function megaupload, sendspace, mediafire, etc and have members report them if they see them.
And whether or not we delete them I think we should start PMing links more and get the email list back up. |
or we could make a email system a la sputnikmusic
|
We had one, it died when I got grounded. I'm all for starting it back up.
|
This is bull****. Their bands won't starve because I decide not to pay twenty-two ****ing dollars at HMV for a CD. If Eyeball gave a **** about the music they'd let it be shared.

I say start the mailing list back up and begin to pm uploads and we should be relatively safe.

What a cock. How does he know that 632 people would have gone out & bought it , how many of those people listened to 2 songs & thought they were shit and deleted them. How many people would have even heard of that band had it not been available free. |

I'm sure his kids are eating out of trash cans and starving, its the New London Fire for fucks sake.

I think this sums up my feelings on the matter pretty clearly

That was painful.
|
So what's the problem again? Most of the stuff we upload is downloaded by one or two people, the ones that requested it. We'll have fun until they get us (if they ever do), and I see absolutely no sense in making an issue out of this before it's become one....
|
I do not want a lawsuit for anyone on this site, add all the links we've posted together thats a shitload of money and someone will have to pay. Or the admin could just decide it isn't worth it and delete the entire site.
|
I just read the letter to other labels...did anyone else get this lets war against the music fans vibe?

They don't really care if it's one persone or a thousand. |
Well, no one's complained yet. If and when they do I'm sure they'll just ask the admin to remove the thread or summink...then we'll just figure out another way to share...but like I said, we've had similar discussion before and we're still doing fine, I see no use of bitching about it before anything's happened.
|
The people have proved to be bullying assholes I really think we should deal with this before it happens.
|
If people are worried here and judging by other sites experiences, we have good reason to be, then it may be a good idea for people posting in the sharing thread, to simply type what they have in way of an upload, with the words, "link available on request".
Then anyone who needs the link can pm that member for the link, preferably via e-mail. |

I don't think people really need telling to put it in PMs.
You either stop it totally or you don't. If you are going to stop it on the main site you can't say 'do it in PMs' on the boards because that's seen to just encourage it. You can turn a blind eye to what goes on in PMs , but you can't be seen to be turning a blind eye it if you get my meaning. |

We couldstart a rateyourmusic/recordnerd/albums list thread and if someone sees something they want they PM that person and they upload/find a link or something. Or we could just straight a new sharing thread soft delete the old ones (members/guests can't see it but mods can), get rid of the links and when we get told to stop uploading in the sharing thread we soft delete that one and then do the rateyourmusic plan. |
