not everyone that uses recreational substances are illiterate degenerates. i am sorry you dont understand that plenty of perfectly normal, successful, and otherwise law abiding citizens that take recreational drugs. everyone from your god send savior "obama" down to the joe the plumber have smoked bud. you know what else? they probably thought it was something interesting to talk about at some point. considering the ties these recreational substances have with musicians and the music they made, it is actually a pretty relevant discussion topic. like with every thread there is plenty of garbage in here, but there has been quite a bit of positive discussion and quality post by some of the members. we would LOVE to have you contribute to the thread, and unless i am mistaken you are a self admitted smoker of the herb yourself. |

Agreed, as you are one of this forums best/most knowledgeable posters.
@jgd85: I have wondered for some time now... What in the hell are you doing in your avatar?? Eating something, smoking, sucking your thumb, looking at something small?

Another angering fact beside the OUTRAGEOUS budge for this anti marijuana campaign is the cost of putting a mid to high level drug dealer behind bars. The average costs to get one from the street to sentencing behind bars is around 400,ooo dollars. This absurd amount of money could be put to much better use. Needle Exchange Clinics are a lifesaver among the heavy drug users and people infected with various life threatening diseases. "The U.S. federal government spent over $19 billion dollars in 2003 on the War on Drugs, at a rate of about $600 per second." This number has grown much higher each year since 2003. Not only that but this is JUST FEDERAL SPENDING. The state is also given a large budget to fight the problem as they see fit. What the government does not seem to understand is that the flow of marijuana WILL NOT STOP. If there is demand for a product, that product WILL be supplied. I hope others join in this discussion, because there is much more to talk about and many more figures that are truly astounding.

There's plenty more worthwhile things to discuss, both Washington and Massachusetts (admittedly they're two of the most liberal states, one allows gay marriage and the other has one of the better civil unions programs out of everyone else and will probably end up flat out legalizing gay marriage itself in a few years) have decriminalized Marijuana which could be a major step up to more states (probably California next if these sort of trends go blue states first as they normally do) following suit. That to me - looser drug laws and keeping nonviolent offenders out of prison - is far more exciting than "dude I got so high this weekend." |
