I have bastard cramps again today. More time off. Started on new medication today for my anxiety so can't wait for it to kick in!

Jans went from having the coolest avatar on the forums to outdoing Trollheart.

Ugh.

Ugh.

Not a fan of Charles Burns then?

No idea who that is, just did a very quick google. Not sure how the two relate.

Edit: Ahh, I see the pic. I like his drawing much better than the RL-esque pic. I'll have to look into this "Black Hole" thing.

It's one of the best graphic novels I've ever read and he's one of my favorite illustrators.

I used to have a different one of his "yearbook photo" illustrations from that book as my avatar:

I came across this series of real life versions of those illustrations yesterday and thought they were interesting.

Not a big graphic novel fan (or reading in general), but I just browsed the Black Hole wiki and I like the premise.

It's not really the typical kind of thing people think of when they think of graphic novels. More like a David Lynch movie in illustrated form. And the artwork is a amazing.

that will always be the avatar i think of you as, Jans

Yeah... Black Hole is pretty much required reading material. Friggin great.

Anyways, talked about this here before but here goes.

Last Friday I interned at a restaurant for the position of a prep/line cook with opportunity to advance. Basically I was given the impression this chef was gonna take me under his wing and give me a goddamn chance which is all I friggin need right now. Things went well. All the chefs were pleased with my performance, they fed me the whole night through with great food. Nothing too high-class which I don't like or have experience with anyways. Just rustic, honest food albeit kinda pricey imo. Anyways, after interning he told me to take the night to think it over. Came back early before work the next day- "I wanna work here. What can I do to make that happen?"

-Good! I'm glad to hear it. I'll call you Monday.

Monday comes and I get no call. I had the day off, came in the following Tuesday after work to check in. Said he was busy, he'll drop by my work tomorrow. Doesn't happen but his employees/other chefs have been coming in for breakfast and coffee. They serve breakfast and coffee there so... I mean what can I infer from that? Tried to call on Wednesday, no response. Sent a text. No response. Talked to the employees when they came in, no one knows what's going on.

I'm kinda getting annoyed. I mean, this is a serious pet peeve of mine to begin with I can't stand being ignored and I feel like that's what's happening. IDK, maybe I'm taking this too personally but just. Come on dude, I gotta know what's happening at least you can't just leave me hangin like this. I mean obviously there's tons of other restaurants and I could find a gig elsewhere I'm just gettin peeved over here.

I wanna go in after work tomorrow and just try and assert myself but at this point, idk. Have I been too pushy?

What advice does MB have to offer?

You can't be too pushy when looking for a job, chances are you've got competition or you're not really needed for time being. Catering is a fairly hectic career path, it's difficult to find time so things get pushed aside. Just keep asking.
