Well this is true, in your position because you're living on a different landmass. If it weren't for that and I'd been in your shoes I just wouldn't have asked about claiming on insurance and just it as was. C'est la vie.

Yeah, I agree with you completely. If I were still living in Australia I would have liked to have kept it and ditched the claim. The only thing is that the damage devalues your car to basically nothing if you were planning on selling it in the future. And on my comprehensive car insurance policy I have to repair any damage incurred anyway, otherwise they are insuring a car for a certain amount of money when it is actually worth nothing. But now I know what to do and what not to do if something like this happens again... though I think the chances of another apocalyptic hail storm are very slight, ha!
