I dunno, I know a lot of people who don't know the finger positions who type a lot faster than the ones who do. So I don't care too much about those :)

djchameleon 02-06-2011 06:35 PM

no ****ing way.....there is no way that someone is typing faster one finger typing than someone that at least knows the finger positions. I don't believe you, you dirty liar

s_k 02-06-2011 06:42 PM

Haha, I've tought quite some persons ten finger typing over the hears, but I've never seen anyone type faster than myself and my ex-girlfriend, who uses four fingers on her right hand and her index finger on her left hand.

When it comes to fast typing I will take on anyone here :D.
(720, google the world record please ;D)

Howard the Duck 02-06-2011 06:43 PM

i type with only six fingers, never learnt the finger positions

but I can go as fast as 68 wpm

s_k 02-06-2011 06:45 PM

I don't know my wpm. I know my hits per minute and that's 720.
Not always, obviously. On the right keyboard when I'm not tired.
I usually average 600 in Dutch. Not sure what I'll do in English.

djchameleon 02-06-2011 06:45 PM

what's 720?

the record is 482 wpm

s_k 02-06-2011 06:46 PM

720 keystrokes per minute.
482wpm is abolutely impossible.
Best I could find is 200ish wpm.
Let me google that for ya :D

Edit: Found 482 on a site, but I'm not sure if that's legit.
Googlin' some more :D

Edit 2:

As of 2005, Barbara Blackburn, of Salem, Oregon, is the fastest English language typist in the world, according to The Guinness Book of World Records. Using the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard, she has maintained 150 words per minute for 50 min, 170 words per minute for shorter periods and has been clocked at a peak speed of 212 words per minute. Blackburn, who failed her typing class in high school, first encountered the Dvorak keyboard in 1938, quickly learned to achieve very high speeds, and occasionally toured giving speed-typing demonstrations during her secretarial career.[1]
That's what I could find so far.
I know the same woman did 750 keystrokes per minute.

Mrs. Barbara Blackburn of Salem, Oregon, the fastest English language typist in the world, can maintain 150 wpm for 50 min (37,500 key strokes) and attains a speed of 170 wpm using the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard (DSK) system. Her top speed was recorded at 212 wpm.
37500/50=750.
So she does 750. I do 720. Yeaahhhh :D.

djchameleon 02-06-2011 06:55 PM

do you look down at your keyboard though as you are typing?

s_k 02-06-2011 07:49 PM

No, I don't. If I would I'd probably go faster than 750.
I can't really understand why but it does make me type faster when i look towards my keyboard. Makes no sense as my eyes can't follow my fingers at all :D.

djchameleon 02-06-2011 08:55 PM

strange....everything you do across the pond is strange :P
