Be honest to your uncle next time.
If it's got to do with making or reproducing music, protect it with your life.
If anyone or anything touches it, kill it with fire.
Really, I'd be just as pissed as you are and I don't even play guitar.
I have a guitar. And I hugged it a couple of weeks ago because it fell over.
Not kidding.

if i mean males who arent friends. If i had a male friend even half as considerate as you, itd be excellent :).

Totally understandable. When mine fall down or anything, I seriously pick them up, examine every surface of the instrument, and occasionally ask it if it's okay (I don't expect it to answer, just to clarify, haha!)

I think the worst was when he hit the strings violently while "playing it" and said, "Look, I'm playing that MARIACHI music!"

I cannot afford new strings right now! I get Elixir Nanoweb strings, and they're not in my budget at the moment - if he'd snapped a string...I probably would have punched him. Seriously.

So... What happened then?
Do you want to tell?
I don't mind trying to explain the male side or just join in and call him an arsehole :).

Not strange at all. Or... not for me.
Not sure if that's a good thing :D.
It's sometimes hard to accept the fact that something you feel so much for can't feel anything :)

I would at least have taken it out of his hands.
Do not, ever, disrespect musical instruments.
Or am I starting to sound creepy now?

Whatever you do, make sure the guitar is safe, first :D

I almost screamed, "Tela! No!" but I thought he'd be super creeped out that I named my guitar - and also assumed he wasn't going to drop it.

And no, it's not at all creepy that you're saying to never disrespect musical instruments, because that's really how I feel, too. My guitar was maybe $130, but I've already put so much money into getting it in perfect working order, and it plays better than my friend's $400 Takamine at this point. I take instruments dead serious, even if I'm only a mediocre musician at best.

I can't play at all, but still.
And money isn't the issue here, even if you don't have it. I mean, it's an instrument.
Even if I know how to treat them I pick them up carefully. It's something you just... do?

I probably would have shouted 'uncle, no!' instead :)

So what was your uncle's point for all this? Cz that just sounds like the working of an annoying older brother in his confusing puberty years.

And guitars are very easy to talk to. Great company.

ThePhanastasio 02-09-2011 09:14 PM

He's apparently just a douche who doesn't understand that bothering other peoples' instruments is not okay. I sat it down when he came in (I'd been playing it) and got up, so he went straight for the guitar. He has no musical background at all, so maybe didn't understand the value I place in my instruments, but it was still completely awful.

If he comes over again, I'm carrying Tela with me at all times.

And yes, it's completely natural for me to talk to my guitar..."Tela, is your E string flat? Do I need to tune you?"

The Guitar Whisperer... Would make a great show.
