Issue Seven of Feel The Word Magazine Is Up

Home | Feel The Word Magazine

Welcome to issue seven of Feel The Word Magazine.

Lucky seven?

Maybe.

Even though I’d argue it’s more about some of the talent we’ve got around these parts than luck.

In any case, we’ve got a great issue for you this month. Music contributor Melissa Smith brings us a terrific interview with musician D. Trevlon. Trevlon’s been making a lot of significant noise on the independent music scene, including a couple of gigs at SXSW and an EP that’s drawing some much-desevered attention. Take a look and see what all the fuss is about with this Canadian singer-songwriter whose words and music brings to life the spirit of the old-time country music ballad. A talent who should only get bigger as his career moves on.

And then what else?

Well, as always, we’ve got some great writing and reviews to throw your way. M. Christian, David George and John Fowora bring some excellent short stories to the table this month. Nothing’s held back and the sacred is sure to walk away with a few bruises. Then we follow it up with some must-read poetry from Lauren Singer, returning writers U.V. Ray and Vanilla Simone, Austin Wallace, Danny Washington and Lisa Marie Basile. It’s rare to see poetry cover the spectrum of a great city with a thousand strange possibilities, a love-affair gone horribly wrong or a wink-at-the-camera in the face of the ever-growing surreal. But we’ve got it, and it’s coming from some of the most talented writers out there. Album and film reviews are present and accounted for in what has to be our most packed assortment of opinions to date. Oliver X., Eric Smith and Imran Jaffery make their debut at Feel The Word Magazine this month, each bringing their own take to the world of film. While Dan Schneider and Michael Tenzer return with their usual brand of commentary.

And as a special feature, we’re proud to bring Virtual Fool co-founder Kevin Flanagan and his review of Martin Tahse’s After School Specials: 1974-1976 to this issue. The article goes in-depth to not only give the DVD collection itself a review but also to explain a little of the culture and history of the after school special itself. Something of a lost art these days. And as always, Editor-in-Chief Gabriel Ricard brings the latest Adventures In Netflix column along for the ride. For music reviews, we’ve really outdone ourselves this time. Lee White joins our group of reviewers, which this month includes Ethan Smith, Amber Vilate, Davey Boy and Adam Fisch. It’s always been the hope of Feel The Word Magazine to present a myriad of album reviews looking to cover as much of the sonic universe as humanly possible. Looking through this month’s offerings, you could definitely say we’ve accomplished that.

So, relax, set yourself up with a round or two, remember that the waitress hasn’t stopped living her acid flashback since 1983, and take a look at the latest issue of the magazine that was recently hailed as "Not bad" by the Editor-In-Chief’s mother.

And don’t forget to check out our new wiki page and mailing list.

Again, thanks for looking us up. We’re looking for submissions in all areas, so be sure to look up our guidelines while you’re here.

You know, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Lord knows we are.

I actually already have three reviews done. Older albums (In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, XO and 69 Love Songs) but yeah they're good reviews.

I will be doing a film review and a book review for you next time around.

mr. goth glam 04-06-2008 09:09 PM

We're not really running book reviews at the moment.

But I can refer you to someone who is looking for book reviews if you'd like (the only thing is it has to be current).

And this goes for everyone else...send some stuff along. We're open to album/film reviews, poetry and short fiction.

Just a quick reminder: We're still open to submissions for the May issue.

If you think you might want to contribute something, try to get it to me by the end of this week.

Thanks.
