Thrift Shopping

How many people on this site go thrift shopping? I personally go every other week and I've found some pretty kickin' threads...It saves me tons of money and it saves me from going to the mall and having scene kids ask you where you get your clothes. I usually go to Plato's closet, Slavation Army, and sometimes Good Will.

sweet_nothing 06-12-2008 02:22 AM

oh yeh i used to do that

bsmix 06-12-2008 04:57 AM

My friend's mom owned one for a while and we got first dibs on all sorts of ****, definitely got some clothes nobody has ever imagined of. The last one I went to everything was half off. I got Frampton comes alive, a richard simmons record, 2 ELO records and Uriah Heep Demons and Wizards for 59 cents each.

You can find good stuff if you can be bothered to look for it. The shirt that eventually became my current Eels shirt cost me 50p!

bsmix 06-12-2008 05:00 AM

50 pennies?

sweet_nothing 06-12-2008 05:00 AM

naw there is too much heat in Texas right now to put it on, plus school ended 2 weeks ago, i thought it would look cool with my mod look

I love the thrift stores but for me it takes alot of time and patience to sort through everything and then try on clothes as well unless it's just a tshirt or something. I usually have to clear my schedule for a few hours if I want to thrift shop. I like Ebay as well but I prefer to try on my clothes before I purchase them. They do have some cool stuff though.

I dig the thrift shops. I've found some real gems over the years. But at one point, it became trendy and stuff started getting expensive - especially vintage tees - so I haven't been in a while. But when I used to have to wear ties for work, thrifts were my first stop for shopping and I would buy the ugliest/gaudiest I could find. It was my silent protest, if you will.

****in heat...should migrate north for the summer, I say.

Anywho, back on topic. Love thrift stores, hate the smell of them though. They always have that old people, moth ball smell to me. Ew.

you can say that again,......on both accounts,......

i'm not rifleing through thrifts stores so much these days,....but in college i loved them,......old worn out concert tees, and already broken in jeans,......btw, i've learned that if you want your jeans to fit you perfectly, throw a few cups of epsom salt in a warm bath, put your jeans on, and sit in there for about 30 mins, get out and let the jeans dry on you,......bingo, perfect fittin jeans for the duration

...fabric

or you cant take old clothes and make them your very own by adding and taking away. im attempting some fun designs over the summer between semesters. im a fashion major but i know plenty of people who arent that do the same. trust me. no one will have the same thing.

I havent bought clothes from a thrift store in a long time. Mostly just get all my clothes from the local skate shop. But in the summer, Im known to find some gangster ass shirts and cut the sleeves off. You can find some funny stuff.

holy crap, my ass isn't nice enough to go through all that.
True thrift store steez is wearin whatever you buy without washing it. but don't buy underwear... and wigs you might want to think about washing.

I think thrift stores are so underrated.
Where I lived in Wyoming I was in the poor family living in the rich town. But you would never have known... :)

bsmix 06-17-2008 11:13 PM

I always thought Wyoming's state motto was 'Everyone is rich here'. =(

WWWP 06-18-2008 12:41 AM

Well apparantly I missed that memo...

bsmix 06-18-2008 01:57 AM

That was pretty messed up its just fun to crap on wyoming dont know why. thrift stores make me look like a rich kid form the 90s

***MMMMEEGABUMP!!!***

About twice a month, yes. Mainly for records and audio equpiment.
I also go to a lot of yard sales/boot sales in summer.

someonecompletelyrandom 12-20-2011 07:17 PM

I go thrift shopping all the time. Records for 75 cents? Yes please.

Farfisa 12-21-2011 04:39 AM

I got "Stand!" for less than a buck once. My local record stores don't really have that great of a bargain bin, in all honesty.

someonecompletelyrandom 12-21-2011 08:23 AM

I found a rare Ennio Marricone soundtrack worth 35.00 usd on eBay for 50 cents. The resale value of a lot of that stuff is totally underestimated. My parents used to almost make a living out of buying old board games and re-selling them... And that was before the age of 3G Internet. With a little effort, the Goodwill can really generate some spending money.

I love the the vintage look and style. As long as I am Wearing a pair of converse. =^•^=

Dayvan Cowboy 07-27-2013 10:57 AM

Almost everything I own are hand me downs and thrift store ****. Thrift store shoes are amazing somethimes. I own many pairs of almost new doc martins and get complimented on them every time I go out! Also thrift store craft supplies have probably saved me hundreds, and for some bizarre reason the thrift store near my house has about 6 or 7 shakeweights!
