Thumbs up The Truth about Joe the Plumber

These past weeks, we have all been subjected to various news stories about "Joe The Plumber". Aren't we fortunate that we have media outlets like NBC and several others to point out some really interesting facts about "Joe The Plumber?"

First, we were made aware that his name really isn't Joe.

Then, after some really outstanding investigative journalism, we were made aware of the shocking fact that "Joe The Plumber" did NOT have a plumbing license.

But then, if you really checked into these earth shattering reports a bit further, you learned that "Joe The Plumber's" real name was Samuel JOSEPH Wurzelbacher. You also learned that he was in fact working as a plumber under his employer's plumbing contractor's license which is legal in most states.

If ANY of the supposed NEWS Services that had really done a bang up job of revealing these facts about "Joe The Plumber," had ever actually had any dealings with a plumbing company, they would have known that many of the "plumbers" who come to your home are actually employees operating under their employer's license.

i am also sure that if they really put their minds to it, they might have accidentally stumbled upon the fact that many times, people are called by their nickname, and many times they prefer to use their middle name.

They might further have actually been able to ascertain that "JOE" is often used as a nickname for "JOSEPH" which happens to be Mr. Wurzelbacher's middle name.

And now for the moment you've all been waiting for: TA DA DA!!!

I too was interested by the pendulous reports in this story. This is a good point but your obvious agenda devalues it.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

Jay, believe me when i tell you ~ i have no agenda, other than to try to make a 'good' decision about whom to vote into the White House.

i've been forced into a defensive position, where i'm trying to research AND answer 3 people at once, and i'm a stoner! (Hey, it isn't easy being cheesy!)

But the bigger issue is that, if THAT is what regular NEWS and Newspapers believe is 'good investigative journalism,' that says a LOT about their ability to even report the facts, don't you think?

Your right, although i'd like to know which newspapers have been focusing on "who joe the plumber really is." In my experience, newspapers do much less to report on fluff pieces like this than the TV news stations. I actually agree with you on this one, it's ridiculous that news stations think that this is worth discussing, when there are so much more important issues at hand. I have criticized pretty near every major news program in the states for this reason, and yet most newspapers seem to be a hell of a lot better in that respect.

Average household wealth by wealth class (in 1998 dollars): (Remember that $100-billion is 10,000 times greater than the average wealth of the top 1%.)
Wealth class Average wealth of class
Top 1% $10,203,700
Next 4% $1,441,200
Next 5% $623,500
Next 10% $344,900
*********
Next 20% $161,300
Next 20% $61,000
Next 20% $11,000
Last 20% -$8,900

That's what i'm talking about. Now, do you see how there could be a little problem?

Joe the Plumber basically sums up everything I hate about media political coverage; going on and on about unimportant sh*t and flat out ignoring anything that has any real importance.
