Torrent Life: Which role do you play?

When torrenting to your little hearts content do you ever stop and think what kind of person you are being. Are you the selfish downloader who constantly takes files from others computers, or do you like giving back to the legal;) downloading community.

Akira 11-25-2008 05:02 PM

I only download what I have. It's easier to line up several torrents to download over night than to sit up ripping each cd

Astronomer 11-25-2008 05:02 PM

I am the selfish downloader, only because I just found out what a torrent is and am yet to be able to offer anybody something in return. I will learn!

You dont really need to learn. You just chose not to move file when its completed. Then your ratio automatically begins to even out.

Astronomer 11-25-2008 05:05 PM

Oh, cool! I didn't even know that. I'm not as selfish as I thought then.

dac 11-25-2008 05:05 PM

I delete that stuff from uTorrent as soon as it finishes.

It is definitely safer that way.

FaSho 11-25-2008 06:06 PM

I'm mostly a selfish downloader. Every once in awhile I'll give something back, but it's rare.

GuitarBizarre 11-25-2008 06:13 PM

Definitely selfish, mostly because my home connection only gives me a 10th of my download speed as upload, so its painfully slow to seed anything.

Astronomer 11-25-2008 06:14 PM

If everyone are selfish downloaders... where do we get all the torrents from?!

From Seeders:

Astronomer 11-25-2008 06:18 PM

Ohhhh we get them from Mexicans dragging strange contraptions through mud. I get it!

FaSho 11-25-2008 06:22 PM

Well it's not like they care about music.

lucifer_sam 11-25-2008 07:04 PM

I set my universal upload limit at 1 kbps and I haven't uploaded a single fucking thing since I've had it.

I do, however, help members on here in need, but not through torrents.

Rage Against the Machine 11-25-2008 07:52 PM

I give a lot.

6.51 ratio on Demonoid.

Predator 11-25-2008 10:34 PM

I sit at about a .75 to 1.25 ratio, depending on what I want. I set unlimited upload speed from 11pm to 7am, limited to 10kb/s during the day. I copy the files and leave it in my seed folder for a few weeks.

Astronomer 11-26-2008 06:00 AM

lol noone here is a giver :( what a selfish bunch!

Piss Me Off 11-26-2008 07:27 AM

I give, just not as much anymore with the new laptop. I was seeding about 30 torrents before that, mostly albums which were dying and took yonks to find.

jackhammer 11-26-2008 07:29 AM

Too many people spying on torrents so I don't do them. Search engines do the job for me.

tdoc210 11-26-2008 08:11 AM

jackhammer get peer guardian 2 it blocks those type of people

The Unfan 11-26-2008 09:04 AM

I do a bit of both but I download far more than I upload.

The Monkey 11-26-2008 06:16 PM

I always stop the torrent activity as soon as I finish downloading so that I can move or delete the downloaded folder.

RoemerMW 11-28-2008 11:56 PM

I always seed the same amount or more that I leech.

This.

Sometimes I dream of having a symmetrical line...oh such unattainable sweetness. http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...power/sigh.gif I would seed everything to 3:1 or higher, just to make up for all the times when I've bolted on a torrent. And because I understand that most people's connections are still painfully slow...:( C'mon technology, develop faster!

sleepy jack 11-29-2008 05:40 PM

I love to take take take because I'm an Ayn Rand fan.

Forgetful people like me that forget to move my downloaded files OUT of UTorrent's download folder so no one can even SEE that I have downloaded files.

Therefore I can't share. Unless I forget to move them. But we already covered that.

Rockafella 12-05-2008 06:54 PM

I mostly just take then delete the torrent when I'm done.

I'm not sure how I sleep at night.

Fast forward 10 years, now I have fiber! [because I'm currently in a technologically developed country, Croatia is still in the middle ages]. 100mbs up/down, so I definitely seed the sh!t our of everything now. You're welcome, internet. :)

SmokeAndMirrors 08-19-2018 06:59 PM

"No, not really..."

[MERIT] 08-19-2018 09:15 PM

I take what I want, when I want. I don't seed. Once I get the media downloaded, I delete the torrent, and move on with my life. But I give back by uploading free media to my website and putting in work to create, edit and format it for others to use, free of charge. So, karmically, it balances out [for me].
