Nice thread, but needs more activity. I'm on MSN now if anyone wants to be interviewed. I'm open to being interviewed too, though I am of the newbie-ish variety. Don't mind which.

You can interview me Mr. Goblin Tears, if you wish.

That's fine. Hopefully someone else will volunteer.

Arya Stark 07-04-2010 04:46 PM

There should be like. A member of the week or something to interview. And people just ask them questions. That could be for a different thread, though.
:D

I think that was the original plan TBH but it kinda fell by the wayside.

Hahaha, interesting.
I didn't know because there were no rules or anything in the OP.

Well I am still up for being asked anything and I will just delete anything that compromises me! That means most of it lol

:D

Thats a good idea. Instead of conducting these interviews via IMs, just open a thread up and allow members to put their questions in there for whoever it is answering them that week.

Arya Stark 07-04-2010 08:49 PM

I love when people like my ideas.

I had an idea of what this thread could be, it turned out it was a big "blow me next" operation. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, but no one gives a **** about the person interviewed, they're just waiting for their turn.

Scarlett O'Hara 07-04-2010 10:58 PM

I'll be interviewed if someone wants to ask me questions. Can't guarantee it will be exciting but it will probably include something sexual.

bungalow 07-04-2010 11:04 PM

never been so desperate for an interview that i offered sexual favors. other things, yes. not an interview.

Lady Kaka - love it  I'm more of a Cristiano Ronaldo girl myself.

Mojo 07-05-2010 07:32 AM

^^ Christiano Ronaldo is a fantastic, talented footballer and even after a poor world cup must still be considered one of the best in world. But if i saw him in person, id throw a leg out there and trip him for real for once. See how he likes it.

Sweet, it'll give me time to think of some questions.
And Amandria as if I meant it like that! You dirty minded person. ;)

NumberNineDream 07-05-2010 05:24 PM

I'm down on being interviewed. Sounds cool.

FETCHER. 07-05-2010 06:43 PM

er not true. When the thread was ressurected i read everyones interviews and found them very interesting to find out stuff i hadnt before.

edit: Esp kh's because it wasnt really about music. it was about him. id no idea he was originaly english, and his dad stays in china. amazed me.

Burning Down 07-05-2010 06:52 PM

I'm willing to be interviewed...

FaSho 07-05-2010 06:54 PM

I doubt Big3 was talking about literally everyone, and I sure wasn't. The point that is that this thread was for members to get to know eahcother better by reading and commenting on eachother interviews. Instead 90% of the responses are "I wanna be interviewed"

I'm not whining because no one commented on my interview, but because the premise of this thread was something I really wanted to see actually done.

TheBig3 07-05-2010 07:18 PM

Yeah, I'm sure some people read it. But the interview takes about an hour, some coordination, and some formatting to post without looking like complete ****. I took exemption to the idea that I'd just grown lazy.

I think my original point still stands. I'm not offended but I will go on record as saying I brought it back up hoping for end-result A and got result B. If someone else wants to continue it fine, but its a little ****ty that I put a lot of work into keeping the social economy of the boards spinning and was called lazy when it failed and I gave up the ghost.

04/07/2010 23:43:24 Precious

hi

04/07/2010 23:43:58 James b

Hello

04/07/2010 23:46:42 Precious

So, to begin with, can you tell us some basic info about yourself? And how did you come to be a member of MusicBanter?

04/07/2010 23:47:21 James b

I'm James, 14 and from Cumbernauld near Glasgow in Scotland
I came to be a member of MusicBanter because I needed a placee to discuss music and find new artists. My father introduced me to alot of the artists I like today, but i'm always looking for something new. I'd been a member of two music forums previously and they were dead, I googled music forum and was impressed by the quality of the site. I made an account but didn't post for ages due to nerves. I got over them, started posting and here I am!

04/07/2010 23:51:30 Precious

Wow, you're only fourteen! But your posts definitely have an air of a maturity. Do you ever feel intimidated because of your young age?

04/07/2010 23:52:38 James b

Kinda, people assume that I don't have much knowledge because of my age and that bothers me. I was introduced from a young age and have always had an interest. Also as i'm young their are some fields that are discusssed on the boards that I can't really comment on.

04/07/2010 23:55:16 Precious

Indeed. Still, you seem to have an excellent knowledge of music. What kind of music do you generally like? Is it safe to assume from your avatar that you like Klaus Nomi?

04/07/2010 23:56:00 James b

Haha yes, Nomi is a legend. Now i'm faced with that question all music lovers dread "
I think i'm pretty eclectic. I listen to a wild range of genres. Mainly Punk I guess because my alltime favourite band are The Clash. But I also love Folk, Tropicalia, No Wave, Jangle Pop, Prog, Jazz, Funk, Country, New Wave, Post-Punk, Indie but a lot of it does annoy me. Kind of an all rounder really.

05/07/2010 00:00:23 Precious

Again, your tastes are very broad for one so young. When did you first develop such a passionate interest in music?

05/07/2010 00:04:06 James b

I reckon about 10, that's when I started to actually listen to the music being played in the car and such. Before that I was into stuff like Busted, which I guess I just liked because I heard it on the radio and it was catchy. My dad played stuff like Radiohead, Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground even through to stuff like Black Flag and Patti Smith.
That's when I got really excited I used to surf the net searching for new stuff, then I discovered the record shops in town, I started going there all the time spending loads of money on albums.

05/07/2010 00:06:44 Precious

That's some pretty deep music you've listed there, as opposed to Busted. Speaking of record shops - do you still purchase albums there? And how do you find it compares to downloading them?

05/07/2010 00:10:08 James b

I love buying albums, something about going in there and searching for what you have been looking for. Plus the feeling when you actually find it and buy it, knowing it's actually yours and holding it in your hands. Downloading is great and nowadays I download something before I buy it, to see what it's like. But you can't beat having it physically.

05/07/2010 00:10:37 Precious

I agree...the music tastes better or something when you buy it.

05/07/2010 00:11:02 James b

I find my Last Fm. to be really innacurate because I listen to my albums and it doesn't count it. I also love reading the little books inside.

05/07/2010 00:11:33 Precious

They are technichally part of the album...people seem to forget that in the age of piracy. So, are there any particular artists/bands that have really affected you? What are some of your favourite albums?

05/07/2010 00:15:41 James b

Well..The most important album to me is probably London Calling by The Clash. It was the first album I bought that just overwhelmed me. I got it brought it home along with some other things I bought and played it. It just struck me as perfect I must have played it around twenty times that night. It blew my mind.

05/07/2010 00:16:41 Precious

It's certainly regarded by many as one of the best albums ever.

05/07/2010 00:17:10 James b

Faust IV by Faust is my favourite ever album. I heard it and I was just in a state of shock. It's just unbelievable. The album that made me think about Experimental music. Tropicalia Ou Panis Et Circenses is another one. The first Tropicalia album I heard and that for me is the greatest ever genre. I don't understand a word they are saying but it just gets to me. Such passion. The movement has such a fascinating history. So yeah that's a few, but I have a top 100 albums lying about. And i'm working on a 1000. I love making lists.

05/07/2010 00:23:26 Precious

That's very interesting...so I see you listen to a lot of foreign language music? Most people living in english speaking regions are very anglo-centric, and don't bother seeking out music in other languages. What's your opinion on this? Do you find any benefits to listening to foreign language music?

05/07/2010 00:26:58 James b

I do. I think hearing music from other cultures is very important. If it has passion, is interesting and the musicians aren't terrible, I don't care what language it's in and will love it. I think the main reason I find Tropicalia interesting is the history (I want to work in history). But their is a lot of other foreign language music I enjoy, for instance I recently have been digging a compilation of pop singles released in Thailand throughout the 60's. It's near perfect pop music but I don't know what they are saying. I think hearing other culture's music also makes you a better person and it helps you understand different peoples. I only speak small amount of german but would love to learn another language someday, so I could translate the wonderful music and see what they've
I also listen to loads of Japanese artists.

05/07/2010 00:31:51 Precious

Ah...so do I. I completely agree with you. Music can really be an ear opener into other cultures. Any particular Japanese artists you admire? The japanese music market is probably the biggest market next to the english one.

05/07/2010 00:41:09 James b

Of course the Japanese are infamous for their Noise Rock, Afrirampo being a personal favourite. Also Boredoms who are fantastic. J-Pop too, like Bonnie Pink and Advantage Lucy. Japanese Folk like Happy End. J-Rock like Number Girl. Ghost as well, great Psychedelic artist. Really fantastic country for music. Acid Mothers Temple are another band you have to mention.

05/07/2010 00:31:51 Precious

All great artists. Thank you for your time!

FETCHER. 07-06-2010 02:38 PM

I found it a very interesting read, however I know this is a music forum. But I want to know less about the music and more about them. Im not saying music isnt apart of someones personality in anyway shape or form. But still very very interesting read. I also love reading the little books inside albums! :D
