Alcohol is a vice. Theres no way around it. I say this because I think a lot of people wouldnt consider it so, and would overlook the possible effects of it.
However I must say I ****ing LOVE a drink. I also smoke too, not that I'm claiming this to be a good thing or anything. Im just saying. I dont do drugs in the sense that I dont do what a lot of people would consider to be 'drugs' even though smoking is way worse than getting high every now and then, health wise.
Alcohol can certainly have its negative effects. I know two people off hand who have liver problems, one is 23 and the other not much older. I also know one person who may not be ill but used to be a completely different person when he was drunk. Luckily I do mean USED to be, hes done really well to know his limits and sort his life out because even though I like to think I was patient with him and a good friend I wasnt gonna take him to hospital again with glass lodged in his arm because he fancied a fight with his bathroom window. He was more a danger to himself than anyone else when he was drunk.
My point is that even with all that said I think its all down to the individual. Its not like were idiots here or anything, or at least most of us arent. I used to be in the pub 4 or 5 nights a week and if im honest I miss those days. Now my pub time is a night or two a week, but only because I cant afford it anymore. Ive often wondered how thin the line is between 'loves a drink' and 'alcoholic', especially once I realised that once a few days have gone by without a night out I find myself itching for one, and probably moreso for the alcohol itself rather than the company, even if it IS a bit of both overall. But ive come to realise that aslong as i dont wake up and head for the booze im no alcoholic, i may wait impatiently for a night out but i wont have one on my own even though the opportunity is most certainly there.
I can only speak for my own country here but we will continue to be told that binge drinking is on the rise as are alcohol related deaths and for these reaons I can see restrictions being enforced much like they are in America so that British citizens can vote and contribute towards the future of this country yet still not be trusted with a few pints down the pub. I cant even begin to explain how ****ing stupid and backwards I feel that would be. The minority will ruin it for the majority.
I like a drink. I like to get drunk. Sometimes I like to get REALLY drunk. Alcohol may be a concept that I sometimes wonder about, as in I wonder why on Earth such a thing was invented as there really isnt any logical reason for it at all when you think about it but *I* know what my limit is, I'm not going to cross it, I ENJOY alcohol, I understand what it means to drink and OK, maybe get a bit ****ed up at times but still drink responsibly and not have it negatively affect me so I give a big '**** you' to everyone who wishes to tell me that I shouldnt be doing so.
