I have no idea - I know that Lexington and Richmond, KY don't have that law, so I guess it's not statewide...I just live in a "moist" county, and my city is the only one in the county that allows sale of alcohol at all. Seriously. Aside from a few restaurants which were able to get liquor licenses, there's no alcohol sale at all. Technically, they're not supposed to sell anything with an alcohol content over 8% at a convenience store here (I don't know how the Tilt slipped under their radar and was allowed to be sold at gas stations) but I guess they got away with it somehow. And yeah. I think it is a religiously motivated law. There's literally 30+ churches in town...that I know about.
Makes sense..thats the reason why this county still prohibits the sale of alcohol at any stores other than resturaunts. Unless the churches can find a way to justify it..Example..they allowed a winery to open, and any resturaunt you go to sells every kind of beer and alcohol you want. If you want your own personal booze though you have to drive 30 minutes to the closest store. Of course no hard liquor on Sundays for sale though or past 9 on any day its allowed for sale.

Yuck. I can at least buy alcohol and liquor in my city...provided it's not between the hours of midnight and 8AM or on a Sunday. Also, restaurants here are only allowed to serve alcohol if more than 75% of their sales come from food. Even going to Ohio and West Virginia to buy alcohol sucks - in Ohio AND West Virginia, I can never buy liquor after 10pm - or on Sundays. In Ohio, they sell beer until 1AM, and in West Virginia, until 3AM; fortunately, I'm within 10-15 minutes of both states (for late runs). It's still not ideal, though.

yeah it's called a blue law and I think they are so pointless. I don't even know why they are still on the law books.

Blue law - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

if you go to the link you can scroll down and see the different states that have the restrictions.

My only gripe with buying alcohol in PA is that you can't get it at UniMarts and stuff like you can in some surrounding states. I'd love to walk to the cornerstore and buy some booze.

It's a Pennsylvania brewed beer, and of course I have to support my state. I got turned on to it last year by a buddy and we'd drink it out of bottles. I think just recently they began making it in cans. It's not a dark beer or heavy, but it doesn't taste like a light beer either. It was only $12.50 for a 24pack and that's a deal I have a hard time passing up. Most beers at that price are like Natty or Key Light, but this is a bit better than those. Good beer for your buck.

Not a bad price at all for a case of brew. You can get a 30 pack of nat light or keystone for around the same price here. I can drink either but natural light if it gets hot at all is disgusting.

Magic Hat is one of my favorite breweries. Circus Boy's not extremely dark, but it's darker than a lot of their brews - a lot of the ones I've had have been IPAs or other ales, and this one is a hefeweizen, which is a wheat beer. It's brewed with lemon grass, and has a nice, pleasant taste. Really carbonated, but not a lot of the bitterness of more hoppy brews. It's only like, 4.0%ABV, but it's pretty tasty.

And to Dirty - yes, #9 is really good. I believe they call that one a "Not quite Pale Ale" on the packaging, and it's pretty good. I drank that pretty nonstop for a while. Good stuff. Also, yeah, they're a little bit pricey. Not too bad - kind of mid range as far as price goes. Like, around here, they're about $8.99 for a six pack, which is about a buck more than I pay for a 12 pack of PBR. Magic Hat's about the same price as Blue Moon or Sierra Nevada around here.
