Will add both of those to my overflowing recipe folder. Serious Eats is a fantastic site (it's so useful) and I ****ing LOVE Anthony Bourdain. I love how cranky and broody he is sometimes on his shows. Never read his books but I need to; I'm not surprised that he'd be an entertaining writer. His show Parts Unknown is on netflix and the Iran episode was especially good.

Oh yes, I've experienced the milk foam volcano myself many times. (Usually when making grits with half water/half milk. I never learn.)

Anyone got any good chili recipes? I notice Serious Eats added a bunch of new ones.

Half a bag of spinach, brown rice, lentils, chickpeas, and roasted red peppers.. mixed with a little bit of chickpea juice from the can and garlic oil from the peppers. Microwaved and mixed in some siracha, pepper, and crushed red pepper..

Really wish I had some sort of curry sauce atm, but it's still pretty goooood.

You ever make your own?

DwnWthVwls 02-02-2017 06:54 PM

No.

I just wanted to remind you guys that I'M VEGAN.. Here's what I had for dinner. It was vegan.

-Steamed a bag of those premade veggie stirfry microwave kits
-Marinated 2 pieces of tofu, 1 pack ****take mushrooms, and 1 yellow squash in teriyaki sauce and a drizzle of oil.
-Sliced 1/2 red pepper and open 1 can water chestnuts.

Take a big ****ing pan and spray it with olive oil..
-Add everything (proportional to cooking time) and bring it to a simmer until delicious.
-Added pepper, cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder for taste. and a TINY TINY bit of salt, not really a fan.

Put on top of brown rice and add some chickpeas as a side.. Voila.

btw, I'm vegan now. No animals were harmed in the creation of this meal.

Was the packaging of all those products vegan?

DwnWthVwls 02-08-2017 05:38 PM

Idk are plastic and aluminum vegan?

Frownland 02-08-2017 05:47 PM

Some plastic products have animal fat.

Today I ate: Leftover grits, half a jar of pepperoncinis, black beans and rice, two blood oranges and an apple covered in nutella.

DwnWthVwls, do you follow any vegan cooking blogs? (I'm not vegan, though I'm a temporarily-lapsed vegetarian thanks to the ubiquitous taco stands here) Budget Bytes and Minimalist Baker both have some really great recipes.

DwnWthVwls 02-08-2017 06:04 PM

I don't.. I just buy food and experiment, I'm not a very good cook so I usually do stir fry, soups, and other 1 pot kind of things.

A few vegan youtubers I watch do a "What I ate today" (sometimes includes directions) kind of thing and one has a recipe book that I'm gonna buy. I didn't even know vegan cooking blogs were a thing, that's not something I ever looked in to. I bought TVP the other day, I wanna experiment with it to make some burgers.

Also, pepperoncinis are so freakin good, put some in my salad today.

Well the idea is to minimize as much as practicable, not eliminate entirely. If so I might as well put the gun to my head now.

Lightly spray frying pan with olive oil.. add 1 cut up zucchini and 1/2 small sliced red onion.. add pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add 2 tablespoons tomato sauce, cook until al dente.

Throw on top of brown rice, lentils, and chickpeas.. Stir
Add beets on side

You have: my dinner.
