Not true at all. They signed a contract with him to play the part in all 3 Iron Man movies. They contracted him around $8 MILLION per film. After the success of the first film, the producers came to him and said that they felt the next movie would be a success with or without him, and renegged on the $8 MILLION contract, only offering him a tiny portion of it.
